North Carolina has group of junior defenders contemplating skipping their final season for the NFL. Linebacker Bruce Carter said Monday he's staying in school.
"I'm going to come back and finish my education, not only for me but for my family," the junior from Havelock said.
Carter ranks third on the team with 48 tackles and he also has two sacks and an interception return for a touchdown.
The Tar Heels defense, which ranks first in the ACC it total yards (261.6 yards per game) and scoring (15.9 points per game) has seven junior starters. Defensive tackle Marvin Austin, linebacker Quan Sturdivant, safety Deunta Williams and Carter are all considered NFL prospects.
Carter, who's on track to graduate with a degree in communications in 2011, said the decision wasn't that difficult.
"I made up my mind a long time ago, I want to graduate and get my degree," Carter said.

Marvin is gone

How do you know..
Mon, 11/23/2009 - 23:48 — UNC1998Marvin is gone? What I've read say's scouts are liking him some, and needing to see some more.
Well...
Tue, 11/24/2009 - 01:01 — Heels20...I'll start off by saying I love Carolina football as much as any one. That being said, Marvin has always had that attitude that he is better than he is. I wouldn't call him a total bust, but he has not played to his potential as the #2 overall recruit in his class. The fact is, his size and potential alone are enough to get him into the league even if he decides to leave before he's broken out. I love the guy, but I think he has been on the three-year plan since the day he stepped on campus. Hopefully he proves me wrong.
I am happy for me and Carter!!

As far as Marvin goes. Is it he who thinks he is better than he actually is. Or is it the media who has ALWAYS been disappointed in him and thought he should ALWAYS play at a higher level?
Imagine......
Mon, 11/23/2009 - 22:18 — unc098If Bruce can convince the rest to stay......
