UNC's Austin makes preseason All-ACC

Bookmark and Share

North Carolina’s Marvin Austin is among five Tar Heel defenders on the first team all-ACC preseason football list.

The senior defensive tackle has been involved in an NCAA investigation concerning possible illegal contact with agents.

The preseason team, voted on Monday by the media at the ACC summer kickoff interviews in Greensboro, also included UNC defensive end Robert Quinn, linebacker Quan Sturdivant, safety Deunta Williams and cornerback Kendric Burney.

Preseason conference favorite Virginia Tech placed only running back Ryan Williams.
N.C. State tight end George Bryan and Duke receiver Donovan Varner were on the team. Wake Forest failed to place a player.

All ACC Team To Include Cheaters

It would be best to get those UNC players off of the All ACC list before this fictional team has to vacate it's imaginary wins.

I don't know if Yates or any

I don't know if Yates or any Carolina QB would need to be in the conversation.  If you can run the ball and play defense you will win games.  What they need from him is to not turn the ball over.

Let me Know...

how that plan works out

hahaha

i laugh in total commiseration with you.  I know how it feels man

GOSH!!

Hurry...someone go wake up Caulton Tudor...he has been worrying about this since July 26 when he submitted yet another lame post.

Heels20

Makes a great point and one that always drives me nuts.  When people say Nesbitt is one of the top QB's in the ACC I have to laugh.  The guy is a RB.  Nothing more then an NFL wildcat QB.

Let me get this

Let me get this straight...

Ponder

2008 177 318 2006 55.7 6.31 54 14 13 19 115.00
2009 227 330 2717 68.8 8.23 98 14 7 15 147.70

is greater then...

Wilson

2008 150 275 1955 54.5 7.11 67 17 1 25 133.93
2009 224 378 3027 59.3 8.01 80 31 11 30 147.77

Makes perfect sense to me.  Who doesn't think 14 TD's and 7 INT's are better then 31 TD's and 11 INT's.

Blessing in disguise

Although Wilson was 1st team All-ACC his freshman year, he is still flying under the radar to a certain extent.  Personally, I consider Wilson the undisputable number one QB in the ACC, and many others in the area agree.  However, Ponder has received a lot of publicity because of his program's history and the high-power offense they will have this season.  Joshua Nesbitt has gained a lot of attention even though he's primarily a runner.  Jacory Harris is the most overrated player in the country, and Tyrod Taylor is well-received by fans nationwide because his team is most likely the best in the conference.  The longer that teams underestimate Wilson, the more games State will win.

I agree 100%...

But you know the team Ponder plays for is the main reason he's getting so much pub by the media. Is that way of thinking completely stupid? Yes. At least we're not getting the Jacory Harris hype-machine running rampant this preseason. That dude is severely overrated.

Hopefully Russell and the Pack offense will take this slight and use it as motivation to kick some serious behind.

Go Pack!

Perspective...

Blogs about pre-season honors are like economic forecasts...full of bluster and rarely accurate.

Ponder is super because he is a talented drop-back passer behind an NFL-type O-line.  Russell Wilson is a more versatile QB and a winner, pure and simple.

It is revealing that TJ Yates (Heels' starting QB for 3 consecutive years) is not even in the conversation.

No surprise there

Yates still hasn't even won out 1st team All-UNC QB.
