UNC recruit Henson shines on circuit

UNC basketball commitment John Henson, a 6-foot-10 rising senior from Round Rock, Texas, continues to draw rave reviews on the summer circuit.

All-Star Sports recruiting analyst Bob Gibbons said Henson was the consensus No. 1 player at Nike’s LeBron James Skills Academy earlier this month in Akron.

James’ camp featured many of the top players in the nation.

“He’s so long and angular, and he’s got good skills,” Gibbons said Friday.

Gibbons said Henson compares to Brandan Wright, who spent the 2006-07 season at North Carolina before entering the NBA draft.

But whereas Wright didn’t venture much beyond the high post on offense, Gibbons said Henson is capable of playing the wing.

i would bench thompson if he don't come to play a whole game he starts off with 6-10 points in the first half and finsh with 8-11 he needs to be more consistant for them to be national champs cuz he doesn't have stephenson to back him up when he's just out there

Please, if you are a Tar Heel fan, know what you are talking about before you post on here. First, his name is Zeller. Second, obviously a 6-foot 10 post player is not going to be playing in the 3 spot for Roy Williams or any college coach for that matter. Just because he can step out and hit a 15-18 footer doesn't make him a 3. He is going to come in after everyone is gone anyway. SHEEZE!

You don't have to worry about benching anyone at this point. He's a senior in h.s. this year. Won't be a Heel until 2009-2010 season

Henson is a rising senior in HS - he won't be a Tar Heel until Hansbrough, Ellington, Green, Ginyard, Frasor, and even Copeland are all gone. The Heels will need a player like this to step in and step up!!

I'm not sure you bench anybody. It sounds like he might fit into Danny Green's spot by the time he hits campus. There's nobody here to fill that spot when Green graduates. Zoeller slides into Tyler's spot and Davis pushes Deon to the bench?.... probably not,... so I think maybe Henson starts at the three, and Davis backs up Deon for one more year? Whoops I forgot about Graves,.. that still puts Henson second off the bench... I think he gets his minutes without anybody getting benched, but it'll be really hard to make the top six without an injury
