Senior midfielders Yael Averbuch and Allie Long of North Carolina were selected in the first round of the first Women's Professional Soccer league draft today, with seven teams drafting over 10 rounds.
Averbuch was taken fourth overall by the Sky Blue FC, the New York-New Jersey franchise based near her hometown of Montclair, N.J. Long went seventh to Washington.
Amy Rodriguez of Southern Cal was the No. 1 pick, by Boston. Washington also took former Duke star Rebecca Moros 36th overall.
