BLACKSBURG, Va. — North Carolina's victory over Virginia Tech on Wednesday secured at least part of the ACC's regular-season title, something that never gets old for coach Roy Williams — whose teams at UNC at Kansas have now done it 13 times.
"It's really rewarding because everybody was jumping ship after we started 0-2; you guys know that as well as I do,'' Williams said, referring to the Tar Heels' start of conference play. "On one of my call-in shows, somebody was asking whether we were checking the DNA of our players and junk like that. So it is satisfying."
The second-ranked Tar Heels will win the title outright if they beat Duke in the regular season finale on Sunday.
GREEN TIES RECORD: Senior Danny Green has now played in 115 victories for Carolina, tying the school record held by Sam Perkins from 1980-84.
"Wow, that is pretty cool,'' Green said. "The other seniors aren't on there?"
Nope. Tyler Hansbrough, Bobby Frasor, Marcus Ginyard and Mike Copeland have all had injuries that kept them from some of Carolina's victories.
