CHAPEL HILL â North Carolina has blown out its first 13 opponents by an average of 26.4 points. Its âclosestâ victory was by 15. And it leads the ACC in scoring offense, scoring margin, assists, steals, turnover margin and assist-to-turnover ratio.
So whatâs left for the top-ranked team in the nation to work on, as it begins conference play against Boston College on Sunday?
âJust our focus defensively â of making teams take a bad shot and limiting them to one bad shot,ââ said senior wing Danny Green.
Coach Roy Williams said his team has played better defense since a three-game letdown around semester finals, when Evansville, Valparaiso and Rutgers each shot 50 percent or better for one half against the Tar Heels, albeit in UNC blowouts.
But even at Nevada, when the Wolf Pack shot 28.6 percent in the second half, Williams wasnât happy.
âMost of the time, when you give up 14 points on offensive rebounds in the second half, ⌠[and you] put a team on the line and let them shoot 20 free throws, youâre going to lose,ââ he said. âI was not pleased, and yet everybodyâs going to say, âGosh, you canât have everything, they shot 28 percent in the second half.â But I think itâs my job to try to get everything.â
UNDEFEATED TALK: UNC forward Tyler Hansbrough has never played on an undefeated team, but heâd like to â even though heâs trying not to think too much about it. No. 1 UNC is currently 13-0.
âWeâll see what happens; I want to take it game by game, but I think if you ask every team Iâve every played on, it would be great to go undefeated,ââ he said.

Undefeated - HAH!
Sat, 01/03/2009 - 12:50 â richlifeYeah, I'd love to see them go undefeated too. But I haven't seen a single full game performance that would support an undefeated season. I personally think this may be the best Carolina team ever (and Lawson gets my vote as the single best point guard ever), but to get by in the ACC and post-season undefeated will take Roy's "perfection" to accomplish -- game in and game out. Sure we can afford to have an off night for one ore even two players, but the team MUST perform at the top of their capability if we are to have any hope of "undefeated".
