CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina’s 104-74 victory over Georgia Tech on Saturday marked the eighth time this season the Tar Heels have reached the triple-digit mark, securing the traditional two-sausage-biscuits-for-a-buck deal at a popular chain of chicken joints.
Forward Tyler Hansbrough said it's good to break the 100-point barrier, because "I don’t really go to Bojangles, but I know everybody around here loves Bojangles, so it’s big for the fans to go in and get their little discount. But it also shows we’re scoring as a team and playing pretty well."
Has Hansbrough — who set the NCAA mark for career free throws made during the game — ever taken advantage of the deal?
“If I go to Bojangles, I going to get a BoBerry biscuit; that’s my go-to,’’ said the senior, who finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds.
OWIE FOR ELLINGTON: UNC shooting guard Wayne Ellington got a slight scare late in the game when Tech’s Zachery Peacock fouled him on a breakaway — sending Ellington to the floor. While Peacock was called for an intentional foul, it took Ellington a few minutes to rise from the baseline, although he eventually hit both free throws.
“It was just a hard foul,’’ Ellington said. “It knocked the wind out of me, and I fell back on my [right] elbow that was hurting before. So that’s what took me a little bit to get up; I was trying to catch my breath.”
Ellington said his elbow, which he hurt last month, was sore again, but that he’d be fine.
OF NOTE: Carolina’s post-game handout of notes began with this: “Happy 78th Birthday, Coach Dean Smith.”
