UNC notes: A 'country' atmosphere

Bookmark and Share

CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina's seniors are 2-1 against N.C. State in Raleigh, but they have yet to get used to the Wolfpack atmosphere. They'll face it again when the teams play at the RBC Center on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

"From our perspective, their fans are kind of crazy, a lot of country guys over there,'' UNC forward Danny Green said. "They're pretty harsh; they speak their mind, they say whatever comes to mind, they try to hurt your feelings, and it's probably one of the toughest places to play.

"You've got the wolf howling in the background, which is kind annoying. And then when they run out, one time I got hit by one of the batons when they were swinging the flags — I got hit with one of those in the head; that was kind of annoying, too. It's a tough place to play with all of the fans in the crowd; they get into it."

TYLER STILL BRACED: Forward Tyler Hansbrough, who had braces affixed to his front upper teeth after Clemson's Jerai Grant loosened one on Jan. 21, will have to keep wearing the mouthgear for a while yet.

"I still have the braces on, just to keep my tooth in line,'' he said. "I got it checked out again the other day; it's still a little wobbly, so they're going to leave it in another week or so."

Hansbrough, who was not wearing a mouthguard at the time of the injury, said he'll likely start wearing one again.

MOURNING YOW: Coach Roy Williams was sorry he was unable to re-schedule practice to attend the memorial for N.C. State women's basketball coach Kay Yow, which was held Friday afternoon. "We want to make sure everybody in the Wolfpack family knows that there were some other people that care, and still care, and send our deepest, deepest sympathies."

Williams was friends with Yow for years, dating back to when they coached teams that wore Converse and went on summer trips together. "I remember one time so vividly is she wanted to know if I'd talk some basketball with here. So we sat down for about an hour and a half, just in the corner of a little room, and we did some X's and O's. And every time I would see her, and she would be with somebody else, she would bring that reference to it.

"...She was just a fantastic person."

Words aside, who's gonna win?

Talking is fun, but doesn't score points. The sooner the players from both teams realize that...the better off everyone is.

about right

he could have called you guys a bunch of cow f*ck#rs! lol. lighten up. i'm proud to be "country!" you should too!

What a bunch of idiots

I can't wait for UNC to play its second-rate kid sister, State, on Saturday. Such a great "rivalry" against NCSU, a school that's inferior athletically as well as academically.

Academically? Last I

Academically?

Last I checked, they were handing out As and Bs to anyone with a pulse over in Chapel Hill. Professors are too chicken-**** to actually FAIL any students. As a result, NO ONE is learning anything. Why try? Why bust your hump for an A when EVERYONE gets one?Just coast like everyone else and get your sheepskin.

It's like Obama-nomics in the classroom. GPA socialism at its finest.

Take your inflated college rankings (the REAL reason why no one is brave enough to fail students not making the grade) and cram them...I EARNED my degree from State, and am damn proud of it.

Pssh. I'll take an "inferior" school, academically, that can actually push me and teach me than a "superior" one that essentially refuses to keep score, gives everyone "Atta Boys!" and lets kids slide through four easy years on the way to a useless degree.

Re: Academically

Nice work basing your argument on facts and not wild generalizations.  Did you learn that while EARNING your degree at State, too?

yo

James thinks his pre school he went to was better than everyone elses too!

Sure thing Dan

Be sure to tell your Dad that story next time you visit him in prison.

As a State fan, I say

As a State fan, I say that's out of bounds. Leave family members and their issues out of it.

Ty...a really really

Ty...a really really offensive comment.  I pray Danny doesnt read it.

really? show some class

ok tywatt79..

i see you took Danny's comment a little hard..lol

Very classy comment by the way. I understand how you may be a little upset with the sterotyping by Green. But really? your comment is completely unnesseceary. It'd be one thing to bash Green if he was in prision, but he's not. He decided to make better of his life. If you knew the whole story you'd probably understand. But by your comment it's hard to tell if you can actually read. Fans like you are the ones that make your team (fanbase) look bad.. Try to be at least a little classy. You not only represent yourself.. but you also represent your team.

 Stay Classy! & Go Heels!!

hahaha! Danny is the

hahaha! Danny is the man..
He just said what every UNC, Duke, & Wake fan thinks!
and as far as gettin drunked up on moonshine.. yall already do that. also i was at the ECU vs NCSU football game.. and i saw a few guys wearing full body camo. Let me tell you about that one. I'll be at the game tomarrow. Can not wait.
GO HEELS!!!

A "country" atmosphere? What

A "country" atmosphere? What the hell does that mean? There are cows and sh*t running around everywhere?

As long as we're playing the stereotype card, is it within our rights to say that the Dean Dome has a kind of "fairy" atmosphere? Or that, because the college girls over there like to shout out "Go back to the ghetto!", that it's a "bigoted" atmosphere?

Tell you what, Danny...we'll get all liquored up on moonshine, eat some cone'bread n' collards and wear our overalls, just to make you feel right at home. We'll probably say some things that hurt your feelings, but I hope you and your thin-skinned teammates don't mind.

Until tomorrow, pass the hooch, Cletus!

Ouch

Seems like that one hit a little close to home, huh?
