TV signal lost briefly for UNC-FSU

ATLANTA —
A problem with a High Definition close captioning decoder caused a malfunction and interruption in Raycom Sports' signal during the first half of North Carolina's 73-70 ACC semifinal loss to Florida State on Saturday.

Raycom president and CEO Ken Haines said video was lost from the feed for 3 minutes, 17 seconds. He said the problem was quickly repaired.

"It pales into comparison to last year, when we had a tornado (at the SEC Tournament in Atlanta)," Haines said.

The Dome had its own technical problem when a bank of lights went out around 3 p.m., during the second half of the semifinal. According to ACC spokesman Brian Morrison, coaches Roy Williams of North Carolina and Leonard Hamilton of Florida State said they wanted to play on despite the problem.

It wasn't long before the lights were back on, and there were plenty of other lights in the dome to prevent disruption in play.

Raycom

Satellite problems and the loss of audio on Friday, then the blackout yesterday. Raycom's production during the tournament has fallen short of the expected standard. Maybe it's time for the conference to consider a new partner for the broadcasts.

Tim Brant -- worst play-by-play man ever?

I was just disappointed that the audio feed didn't go out. Tim Brant has to be the worst play-by-play guy I've listened to all season. Can't we get a professional for the freakin' AAC tourny?!
How many times during the game, as well as the games on friday, did he not know what call was made, or attribute a foul to the wrong player, or make some idiotic statement like when Hansbrough picked up his third foul with seven minutes left and he says something like "that's a huge foul! big foul trouble for the heels now, Hansbrough is going to have to come out!" And of course Hansbrough doesn't even look towards the bench and stays in the game. He's painful to listen to. I'd rather just watch with the sound off because I can tell what's going on from my couch better than Brant can from right next to the court. Anyone with me on this?

nail on the head

I was telling my wife this today as we lsitened to him spew his garbage.
