Tunnel vision

The Free Expression Tunnel on N.C. State's campus looked a little different Wednesday.
Hmmm. Must have been the tomfoolery of students from The Citadel because as any self-respecting UNC fan will tell you, N.C. State is not their rival, even after they rush the field or traipse across the Triangle to paint a campus landmark.

Thu, 11/20/2008 - 08:00 — trun11ALL the schools on tobacco road are rivals (including Wake). The intensity varies for each school/sport, but it doesn't change the fact that those games are big. I can assure you, as a student of NCSU, any game against one of those schools is important.

There was someone earlier this year arguing that in reality Duke was UNC's football rival as well, its understandable in light of the infamous Spurrier beatdown, but laughable really.
As much as i hate UNC though, i really wish the rivalry got to a truly national stage ala USC/ND, OSU/UM or Alabama/Auburn.
In basketball we've got to do our part recruiting and playing though to be considered a threat and we have to sustain it. But Sidney's got it right. It's all about waking up in the morning and going to work and either talking trash or having it talked to you.

I'd say that's pretty even, even with Mike O'Cain's seven years of suck against the Heels.

We also own the biggest margin of victory for a game i attended 48-3 in 1988. I was also at Kenan the next year for another epic beat down.
These games really seem to go in cycles of epic fail or epic succeed on either side. Hopefully this is another 4-5 stretch of domination.
This series has ebbs and flows.

By the way, the above referenced drink was an idea offered by my wife. Perhaps that what threw you off. Now in basketball it's a whole different story. Duke by far is the main rival. But all in all NC State "is" one of UNC's rival. May not be one of their biggest, but still its a rivalry.
