This game actually should be sponsored by the orthopedic surgeons association, assuming there is one. Buy one knee surgery, get one free during our special holiday sales promotion period. The lower-leg blindside blocking will be that intense.
But as rematches go, this one should be worth the price of a ticket. There’s actually some history involved, and especially so for the Deacons. When the Mids left with that 21-17 win at Winston-Salem back in late September, Wake had the markings of a top-10 national program.
The timing of that game was terrible for Wake, which was coming off a win at Florida State. Jim Grobe and his defensive staff had roughly three days to prepare the unit for the challenge of facing Navy’s near-wishbone offensive system. Navy fullback Eric Kettani rushed for what seemed like a half-mile, and the Deacs experienced a rare nightmare of turnovers.
History will not repeat itself. Given three weeks to hone the defense, Wake will take control early and win going away, 28-14.
