Tudor: Preseason ACC predictions on line if UNC wins

If North Carolina wins at Duke tonight, the official preseason ACC predictions could finish almost squarely on target.

Reporters attending the ACC’s Operation Basketball in Charlotte last October 19 picked the regular-season as such:

1. UNC (57 first-place votes)

2. Duke (2)

3. Florida State

4. Virginia

5. Miami

6. Virginia Tech

7. Clemson

8. N.C. State

9. Maryland

10. Georgia Tech

11. Wake Forest

12. Boston College

The standings entering today’s games:

1. Duke 13-2

1. UNC 13-2

3. Florida State 11-4

4. Virginia 8-7

4. N.C. State 8-7

4. Miami 8-7

4. Clemson 8-7

8. Maryland 6-9

9. Virginia Tech 4-11

9. Wake Forest 4-11

9. Boston College 4-11

12. Georgia Tech 3-12

In the voting for preseason all-conference, UNC sophomore Harrison Barnes led all players with 59 votes.

Here’s the rundown:

1. Harrison Barnes, UNC (59 votes)

2. John Henson, UNC  (47)

3. Tyler Zeller, UNC (46)

4. Malcolm Grant, Miami (32)

5. Seth Curry, Duke (20)

5. Mike Scott, UVa (20)

Barnes, with 57 votes, was a runaway winner in the preseason top-player vote. Henson received the other two votes.

In the preseason top-rookie vote, Duke guard Austin Rivers also prevailed easily with 57 votes. UNC’s James Michael McAdoo and Maryland’s Nick Faust each got one vote.
