I'm sticking to my prediction dating back to May
Thu, 09/24/2009 - 21:50 — Heels20UNC should finish the season 9-3, and I don't think GT will be one of those losses. But hey, I'm not about to underestimate them. This is a very very very important game.
I like how Tudor said
Thu, 09/24/2009 - 13:34 — mad_maxI like how Tudor said nothing about NC State's injuries coming into this game. As much as I hate it, State is gonna have to play an almost flawless game on both sides of the ball to win this one. There's too many starters out and depth charts being changed for State to feel too comfortable in this one.
As for the UNC game, I think the only way UNC is gonna win is to jump out to an early lead and force GT into doing something other than running their gameplan. If GT get's an early lead in this one, I think it could be over. We'll see though...UNC did a good job against that triple-option last year, and supposedly they have a great defense this year.
let me retort...
Fri, 09/25/2009 - 11:18 — izzykareemAs mentioned below we get alot of starters back and I don't think we need to play flawless. We played tu[e]rrible-flat against SC and almost came out with a victory. If we play flawless i could see a Miami type score from last year (38-28).
As for UNCCH, i know its conventional wisdom to assume that if they get out to a big lead then they coast because Tech is a little 1-dimensional but that's not true. They've got a receiver who avgs over 100yds/game. 2) How big of a lead do they need because the GT offense can score quickly from the run, they're running game is like throwing higher percentage hail marys every play. Which brings me to 3) UNCCH has not gotten a big lead on anyone early, including Citadel. GT has a much better D than anyone they've played so far and a more explosive offense than anyone they've played. I think the Clemson game for them was a little bit of a fluke and they took the gas off and let clemson back in, but they were destroying clemson.
I don't know what the line is, but i'd have to give the edge to GT playing at home.
Last I looked, 3 1/2
Fri, 09/25/2009 - 12:14 — JPDOhioThe odds makers agree with you.
Regarding State, I think Pitt is good enough that it will be tough for the Pack (or Pitt) to win by 10. I should be a lot closer than that, especially if the weather turns ugly during the game.
Also, it is starting to look like South Carolina is better than a lot of us thought they were. That also bodes well for expectations of State fans this year.
GT favored
Fri, 09/25/2009 - 12:57 — SurferRight now it is 2.5 to 3. Which I am kind of surprised that it is not more, being in Atlanta.
For State, if it is a slugfest, then does Pitt have the edge?
Yep, S.C. looked better last night, but Ole Miss looked pretty anemic on Offense, maybe due to S.C.'s D?
Obviously you havent been reading the news
Fri, 09/25/2009 - 09:43 — ncstatefan215have you not heard that State is getting back a starting o-line, a starting receiver, and a starting corner...yea States injuries are really going to hurt...the huge thing is Vermiglio being back, this will definitely help with the o-line, as for losing spencer...we gain Bowens, and Jay Smith will be getting a lot of snaps saturday...
One point win?
Thu, 09/24/2009 - 12:08 — SurferYep, BD's Pregame speach:
"Okay guys let's keep this close and try to win by one point. We are going to be ultra conservative and not dominate at all. Oh, and you go to guys, forget about it, because we are on the road and just scared (fingers crossed)".
Um, I don't thing so.
well...
Thu, 09/24/2009 - 12:26 — izzykareemi think that's what CT is saying, that if UNCCH thinks that they are gonna try and control the clock (to keep Tech's offense off the field) then it may backfire and Freshman playing on the road in the ACC, just like in bball, don't often fare well. So those are legitimate points to consider by toots.
I know you guys won last year, but you guys did not stop Tech. They had 300+ yards of rushing. As toots/jpg said, it was critical drive killing penalties and fumbles.
I think you guys can win it, but it will depend on if you guys can a) run it and b) give TJ time. You won't be able to do that stuff from last week, the nickel and dime passes, because that's something i think any smart DCoord will take away.
Humor
Fri, 09/25/2009 - 11:19 — SurferNice izzy, but it appears that you completely failed to see the humor in my post.
So on a serious note, I don't think we necessarily have to run it to be successful. If we were to score a lot of points, via a successful passing game, and got far enough ahead, then GT would have some trouble playing catch up. Sure we have to keep GT honest with the run, point producing possessions will be th bottom line.
If UNC sticks with the same
Thu, 09/24/2009 - 15:37 — chrismg1If UNC sticks with the same gameplan as last year, they should be fine. The key is getting an early lead b/c then GT's offense tends to backfire b/c it takes so much time off the clock it is hard to make a comeback, esp if they are down by 2+ scores.
They had alot of yards rushing last year b/c they had alot of guys running the ball between the 20's and didn't sniff the endzone until the last 6 minutes of the game. the only guy to rush over 100 yards was Dwyer with 157, but 85 of that came off one garbage-time td run.
Maybe I'm the only one..
Thu, 09/24/2009 - 10:28 — UNC1998but I like UNC's chances. Miami's defense handled the triple option pretty well. Where was Miami's defensive coord. last year? He was at UNC. I'm not saying he didn't know how to defend that style, but I know he learned some things. Davis and Blake coached against that stuff all the time. They know how to defend it. The players practiced against it in the spring and fall camps. I want to see UNC punter(s) do a better job of creating good field position for the defense.
Good stuff. My only two
Thu, 09/24/2009 - 10:28 — JamesinWillowSpringsGood stuff.
My only two comments are:
1. I hope Caulton's right on both accounts
and
2. The sound on this is really low. I had to really crank my speakers up to hear it. Maybe it was just on my end.
you just

Only one thing would be better...
Thu, 09/24/2009 - 11:19 — JPDOhioGiglio presented in 3-D. I think it would fascinating and disturbing at the same time.
Seriously though, I think CT hit the nail on the head with his predictions. However, both games will be close and either team in either game can pull out a win.
We will also find out if Pitt is for real. This is the type of game that they have lost in the past. Despite, the injuries, State will be better prepared for Pitt than they were for South Carolina. So if the Panthers can pull out a win in Raleigh this weekend, they will rightfully move up in the Top 25.
