Tate leaves UNC

Bookmark and Share

The short-lived Donavan Tate saga is over at UNC.

Tate, the third overall pick in the MLB Draft, left UNC on Wednesday and is expected to reach a deal with the San Diego Padres.

The quarterback arrived on campus on Saturday but did not participate in practice.

No brainer

There was no way that Tate was going to improve his draft status by playing football at UNC. Unless he was ready to chuck his baseball career or was willing to take less pay in three years while delaying his progress to the majors, there was no other decision to make.

Best of luck to the kid. Sounds like he has a bright future.

I bleed Carolina blue..

but if the Padres threw $5,000,000 at me I'd take it, too! Hit 'em where they ain't, Tate.
