Tar Heels land runner

Gio Bernard, on of the top running backs in Florida, has committed to the University of North Carolina. The 5-foot-9, 205-pound runner at Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas rushed for  1,650 yards as a junior and averaged close to 10 yards per carry.

He helped the school to a top national ranking in 2008.

He missed much of the 2009 season with a hamstring injury.

Bernard had committed to Notre Dame last fall, but said after the Irish's coaching change he didn't think Notre Dame was the best place for him.

"I don't know why North Carolina wasn't in my thinking last fall," Bernard said Friday. "I started thinking about them about midway through the season."

He made an official visit and was impressed.

"It was the whole thing," Bernard said."The facilities, the players and coaches, the education. I just know I want to go there."

He is ranked a four-star recruit to scout.com and is listed as the No. 59 prospect in Florida by SuperPrep. Scout.com has him listed at the No. 13 running back in the country.

"I'm going there with the idea of playing as a freshman," Bernard said. "I don't think you want to go there with the idea of backing up so-and-so. I want to go and compete for the starting position."

Is UNC finished at RB?

They are also in the running for Gainer. With Casey's switch from Rutgers to UNC is Gainer out of the question? I'm UNC all the way, but this O-line shaping up I say recruit all the RB's you can. Bring a dominant running game back to UNC where it belongs.

long shot

but I guess Lattimore COULD surprise everyone and announce he is going to UNC.

Afterall, UNC was not even on Gio's list of nine schools at the end of July which included all three Florida schools, ND and Alabama.

Lattimore is probably a done deal..

to S. Carolina. Hey, everybody makes mistakes! Seriously, I wish all these players the best in their college choices. It's a big decision for their futures.

Casey turner

UNC also added 3* rb Casey Turner out of Jacksonville Fl. Edward H. White HS.

also

Rivals lists him as the 26th best recruit in the state.

Both Scout and Rivals list him as the 13th and 14th best RB in the class.

With his size and supposed power, Ray Rice comes to mind.

I just wanted to help Tim Stevens finish his blog. Smile
