North Carolina is still waiting to hear from the NCAA about which players it can use against Louisiana State and which ones it can't.
"We're all in the holding mode as far as that is concerned," Davis said on the weekly ACC teleconference.
Davis said he has adjusted the depth chart but has not provided details. UNC has not released a depth chart and earlier today announced that players will not be available to the media until after Saturday's game.
UNC announced on Aug. 26 that it discovered possible academic fraud between a former tutor and an undisclosed number of current players during the NCAA investigation into the program for potential improper contact with sports agents.
Quarterback T.J. Yates said on Monday the defense will be more affected by the NCAA probe than the offense but that the players did not know what the lineup will look like on Saturday.
Davis provided little clarity on the depth chart issue on Wednesday.
"We're trying to prepare for all scenarios," Davis said on Wednesday.
That was a change for Davis who said Monday: "We're not preparing for worst-case scenarios, we're preparing for best-case scenarios."

UNC is getting exactly
Wed, 09/01/2010 - 15:12 — rod1972what they paid for. Boy I'm glad they gave this Mercenary a raise. (Don't) wear that Pansy blue with pride Butch. Just cancel your attempt at a FB Program and stick to Basketball, Women's Soccer and whining, what you do best.
Davis is full of it...I
Wed, 09/01/2010 - 14:26 — mad_maxDavis is full of it...I know, big surprise. So according to him, "preparing for the best case scenario" was putting your entire 1st string defense on the scout team? Okay. Oh, and nice job JPG, pointing out his flip-flop nature. Davis is prooving to be a real sleeze. I think we (more importantly, the UNC family) deserve to know what's actually going on by now. Do you really think the players will be talking to the media after the LSU game? Haha, what a joke. Davis wants to keep this secret for as long as he can.
You'll see it everywhere
Wed, 09/01/2010 - 17:21 — Heels20He's just working the media. Depending on how much cheating went on and how much Butch knew about, I may agree with you, but I don't want to condemn him quite yet. Playing the media game the wrong way could lead to a drop in morale, which is the last thing we need right now.
True
Wed, 09/01/2010 - 17:29 — mad_maxHey, I understand, the guy is your team's coach and hopefull ticket to the promised land. There's something to be said for being a loyal fan, even when things look like they could downhill fast. And yeah, I wouldn't expect you to condemn him before the controversy has been settled. It's easy for me to condemn him though haha.
Agreed
Wed, 09/01/2010 - 17:30 — Heels20I just don't want to have to eat my words later when I feel it's too premature to make major assumptions. I will say, though, that he should be fired if a lot of cheating was going on to his knowledge.
It is a much broader and more complex issue...
Wed, 09/01/2010 - 19:59 — heelsno1...than what happened "to his knowledge". BD is paid mega-bucks to win games and run a reputable football program. He should be held accountable if either or both areas turn out to be shameful for UNC. Said another way, it becomes a matter of what a reasonable person would conclude that BD should have known and whether he was building a culture of win-at-any-cost.
