State's record secondary to its performance

Bookmark and Share

Lost in the way N.C. State played Wednesday night in a 56-51 win over Boston College was the fact that the Wolfpack surpassed its win total from last season and equaled its ACC win total.

The Wolfpack improved to 16-7 overall, one more win from last season, and 5-3 in the ACC, it finished 5-11 in the conference in each of the past two seasons.

State coach Mark Gottfried is more concerned with how his team has played than its record.

"To be honest, it really hasn't been something we've been thinking about," Gottfried said. "You get so entrenched with your own team and trying to get better that I haven't really evaluated that."

Gottfried said after Wednesday's game that State didn't play "particularly great." State shot poorly in the first half and was sloppy with the ball in the second half against the Eagles and had lost the previous two games, 61-60 at home to Virginia on Jan. 28 and 74-55 at UNC on Jan. 26.

"We're not playing the way we really want to play, which is getting up and down," Gottfried said. "I think we can play a lot better."
