ATLANTA — This has been a season of firsts for Florida State and Leonard Hamilton. Add an appearance in the ACC Championship Game to the list.
Florida State beat top-seeded North Carolina 73-70 to advance to the final of the ACC Tournament for the first time since the Seminoles joined the league in 1992.
Toney Douglas and Derwin Kitchen hit four free throws in the final 47 seconds to give the fourth-seeded Noles the edge over the Tar Heels.
The Seminoles won 10 ACC games for the first time in Hamilton's sixth season and will make their first NCAA Tournament appearance under Hamilton and first since 1998.
Without Ty Lawson, UNC leaned on Wayne Ellington (24 points) and Tyler Hansbrough (22) but couldn't do what Lawson did against FSU on Jan. 28.
It was Lawson's running 3-pointer that beat FSU during the season. Lawson, the ACC Player of the Year, sat out for the second straight game with an injured toe.
Ellington and Danny Green each missed a 3 on the final possession.
Toney Douglas, as he has all season, led FSU with 27 points. His free throws at 47.2 gave the Noles a 71-70 lead.
Hansbrough, who scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half, got the ball on the next possession and tried to spin to the basket but was cut off by Uche Echefu and Derwin Kitchen.
Kitchen ended up with the steal and then the ball and was fouled with 15.7 seconds left. He hit both of his free throws.
Hansbrough is three points short of J.J. Redick's career scoring record (2,769). He did become Carolina's career leading rebounder, passing Sam Perkins (1,167). Hansbrough has seven boards. He grabbed Danny Green's miss at 19:09 in the second half to set the record.

Let me help you; it's called superior talent. That's why they win year in and year out. They always have top 10 recruiting classes. The same goes for basketball, the schools that consitently have top 10 recruiting classes consitently win more games. Refs might occasionally give a game away, but not even remotely to the extent that you would like to believe.

And the last I checked the sesaon isn't over yet. there's no wasted talent there, UNC is consistent in the NCAA, And I'd rather have the NCAA refs, The refs in the Acc suck anyways. Every team gets help from the refs every now and then, and if anything there are a lot of calls we don't get. At least my team does something every year, and competes for titles.

Got one chance at the real icing in the NCAAs...Got to find the exta help from real gunners again. It appears they all took a vacation in the ACC. Imagine if UNC hits about 8 three point shots they would have been in two easy games. But it didn't happen. That's why I don't bet on anything. If was to bet on the teams that Duke plays I would have won the point spead on each game. That's what happening.

State fans are not as loyal as you think. yea they may show up to games, but by half time they are gone depending on how the game is going. there were no sell outs in football this season, and I doubt they sold the Carolina Hurricanes arena, except for the UNC and Duke game.
