UNC's Wear out indefinitely with ankle injury

Bookmark and Share

UNC freshman Travis Wear is on crutches and out indefinitely after severely spraining his ankle, the school announced. The injury occurred when he stepped on a teammate's foot during Tuesday's practice; X-rays showed no fracture.

Wear, a reserve power forward, has played in all 22 games, and started one, this season.  He is averaging 3.6 points and 2.7 rebounds, and his presence has been important without reserve sophomore Tyler Zeller, who has been sidelined for a month with a stress fracture in his right foot.

UNC plays No. 8 Duke tonight.

Indeed...

perimeter defense and inside play will tell the tale tonight. Drew must protect the ball, and the other guards must do the same. Ginyard must sink shots to draw the defense out. Thompson and Davis will have to show up. If Duke plays lights out there's no question. UNC will have to force poor play, and I'm not so sure the defense can do that. Regardless, I'm Tar Heel born and Tar Heel bred. Go Heels!!

bingo

those are exactly my two points to the game as well.  Perimeter defense and UNC's ability to dominate the paint.  Those two things happen and there is no way UNC losese tonight.  No way.

Ouch

This is not good. Travis has been getting some solid minutes and all of our freshman can use as much experience as they can get. Hopefully this won't be too big of a deal and he will heal quickly.

I hate it that the atmosphere is no good right now. The best rivalry in all of sports is on tonight and you wouldn't even know it. Maybe this works to our advantage and we'll be underestimated? I don't know, I'm trying to be as optimistic as possible. If Dook shoots below 35% from 3-point range (unlikely), then I think we can win. Deon will have to be perfect and Ed will have to show up at 100%. Rebounding will be huge this game and Larry will have no margin for error. We won't have many opportunities from 3 point range, so Marcus is going to have to learn how to finish rather than turn the ball over.

Whatever happens, I'm wearing Carolina blue tonight and tomorrow. Hope we can pull this one off.

Agree

We need to play our A game and Duke needs to bring their B- game.
