Report: N.C. State guard to transfer

Bookmark and Share

N.C. State guard Marques Johnson is leaving the Wolfpack basketball program for Georgia State, according to The Wolfpacker (subscription required).

Johnson, a guard, averaged 2.0 points and 1.2 assists per game in less than 15 minutes per game. A top-100 recruit out of high school, Johnson played only half of the season for the Wolfpack after transferring from Tennessee.

He would have been a junior for State this season. He will have to sit out a full season, or obtain a waiver from the NCAA, to compete immediately for the Panthers.

Johnson fell behind Farnold Degand and Javy Gonzalez in N.C. State's point-guard rotation last season and would have been hard-pressed to find minutes in the 2008-09 season.

No big surprise here

The only thing I was wondering was how long it would take Marques to make this decision, which was a no-brainer if he wants to have a chance to play.
