You’ve got to admire the passion of N.C. State fans.
Coach Tom O’Brien opened a football practice to fans on Saturday at Carter-Finley Stadium after the Wolfpack basketball game at the adjacent RBC Center.
A steady rain made it a bad afternoon for an open practice, but it didn’t stop a couple hundred fans from staying until the end.
"It’s amazing in the rain, they stand in the rain,” O’Brien said. “They didn’t even go up under the overhang. So it’s tremendous.”
The rain stopped just as practice was ending. The players jogged over to the stands to shake the hands of the hardy fans who came out to watch.
Russell Wilson, Andre Brown and Robbie Leonard were among the last players on the field – posing for pictures and giving autographs – after their teammates returned to the locker room.
“I think the kids appreciated it,” O’Brien said. “You get toward the end before we head out of here (home for Christmas and then to the Papajohns.com Bowl in Birmingham, Ala.), and it kind of picked up the practice with everybody here, too.”
There are a lot of places where college football isn’t important enough for fans to stand out in the rain and watch practice.
O’Brien and the Wolfpack are fortunate to be at a school where fans care so much.

I was wrong.
Mon, 12/22/2008 - 15:54 — gvillegatrNo big deal. it was not intentional though. I must be thinking of another game. probably the Loserville game.
i'll eat a little crow over this one. life goes on. merry chritmas to all the NCSU fans here at ACCNow.
heck yeah...gatr getting
Mon, 12/22/2008 - 14:58 — mad_maxheck yeah...gatr getting smacked down!
gvillegatr
Sun, 12/21/2008 - 04:43 — tjfoosegvillegatr is just an idiot, obnoxious, smug, arrogant hater who has an extremely inflated opinion of himself... don't listen to him, he knows very little.... He simply has nothing better to do than to troll around and make snide remarks on various articles and other postings.
btw gatr , about that BC game... I was there, the C-F was still packed at the end... stop your jealous hating and lying. I almost feel sorry for you.
Yeah, I think you really
Mon, 12/22/2008 - 10:39 — JamesinWillowSpringsYeah, I think you really stepped in it, gville, trying to say that C-F was empty at the end of that game.
Think before you post.
agreed
Mon, 12/22/2008 - 15:56 — gvillegatryou are exactly right. that certainly came back to bite me.
"packed"
Sun, 12/21/2008 - 10:38 — gvillegatrfirst of all, I never would have commented had nctravelinman had not said what he did. I think thats fairly obvious if you would take the time to re-read his top post.
secondly, you're a Got Darn liar if you are going to sit in here and say C-F was "packed" at the end of the BC-NCSU game when Evans threw the 30-40 yd pass to the corner of the endzone and won the game.
the joint was darn near empty and you, my enemy, must not have been at the game.
I may say a lot of stuff on this blog, but one thing I do not do is lie.
It was a great idea to have the open practice though. good for TOB.
Liar?
Tue, 12/23/2008 - 04:05 — tjfooseWell gatr , you didn't apologize for calling me a liar, but you finally did admit you are one, either that, or a complete idiot...
'cause you claimed you were there, and if you were, there's no way you could remember C-F as being "darn near empty".
If Lowcountry1 hadn't provided the video proof, you'd probably still be arguing and sprewing your vitriol.
So all, this post of gatr's is like most of his, except this time he got caught. I pegged him dead on in my initial post here. Hate, lies, and venom.
"packed"
Mon, 12/22/2008 - 00:17 — Lowcountry1gvillegatr - you're just wrong about how many people were there at the end of the BC game. Go to this link to see what it looked like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqtbMgyU8Ws&eurl=http://www.statefansnation.com/index.php/archives/2006/09/&feature=player_embedded
full of lies
Mon, 12/22/2008 - 07:39 — noneyabusinessSo gatr, when was the stadium "darn near empty"? I see the stands were still full during the team prayer after the game.
Maybe it was "darn near empty" after they turned off the lights...
You should take off those blue colored glasses every once in while!
Gville is just mad
Mon, 12/22/2008 - 08:15 — JamuncwGville is just mad that TOB is a combined 4-0 against his two teams (UNC and ECU). I was at the game as well and that was the loudest I have heard C-F in a while and it was prob 80% full not almost empty like you say, so you must lie even though you say you don't. The fans at that game were a big reason TOB took the job at NCSU and if it was empty he would not have taken the job.
"Packed House"
Sun, 12/21/2008 - 22:43 — tjfooseI was at the game... I've had season tickets for 10 years now, missing only 2 home games.
C-F was packed, it was loud, it was rock'n. Any moron who rememberd, or even read about, TOB's comments afterwards would be able to conclude the same... He singled out the fans, crowd, and atmosphere of C-F that night.. and brought it up again, as have many in the media, as one of the reasons he came to NC State.
Now go troll along somewhere else with your venom.
Thank you TOB
Sun, 12/21/2008 - 00:44 — SuperStuffI just want to thank TOB for opening up practice for my kids. He's got some quality young men playing for him. The fans appreciate him teaching the players the right way to be a student athlete. Our experience today and a comment I heard from a high school coach about TOB at the Shrine Bowl makes us proud to have such a great man involved with our program at NC State.
who cares
Sat, 12/20/2008 - 23:36 — gvillegatrwho cares if the idiot wants to make the comment. everyone knows it is not true.
what is true is there were about 4,000 fans left when NCSU came back to beat BC in TOB's last season there. I guess you would say NCSU ahs about that many true fans and then there was me still there!
Now, now...
Sat, 12/20/2008 - 21:32 — UNC1998play nice. Where is UNC even mentioned in this post? Oh, that's right.....
right, because you guys
Mon, 12/22/2008 - 14:55 — mad_maxright, because you guys never bring up state in a unc post...
We usually don't have to..
Mon, 12/22/2008 - 17:34 — UNC1998because NCSU fans do it for us.
Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope the holiday is nice for all.
State Fans show up for practice
Sat, 12/20/2008 - 20:20 — nctravellinmanChief Davis in Chapel Hill would like to have that many people stay to the end of a GAME, nevermind practice!
