Plenty of silence after UNC football team meeting

CHAPEL HILL -- During North Carolina's football team meeting on Tuesday, motivational speaker Kevin Elko -- who addresses the team several times a year -- talked. Coach Butch Davis made a couple of announcements.

But the only mention of the current NCAA investigation about possible improper contact with agents, according to team spokesman Kevin Best, came from Best -- who reminded everyone that the only person allowed to speak on the issue is athletics director Dick Baddour.

Thus, after the 70-minute meeting at Kenan Stadium, players exited elevators and walked to their cars while either making short small talk with reporters, bypassing the media entirely, or muttering "no comment." Two members of UNC's media relations office sat outside of the elevator in a golf cart.

It marked the first time the team had met since Baddour confirmed Thursday that the NCAA had been to campus to speak with athletes, but declined to provide further details. The News & Observer and Charlotte Observer confirmed that two UNC players – defensive tackle Marvin Austin and wide receiver Greg Little, both NFL prospects – were interviewed in connection with possible improper contact with sports agents. In addition, the NCAA has also talked to University of South Carolina tight end Weslye Saunders, a pro prospect from Durham.

Timing

I don't know why, but I am now getting the feeling, that with the pace of things, this whole issue may be resolved, one way or another, before the first game in Sept. I mean, how much more information is needed? Although I guess that the NCAA committee would have to meet, yada, yada, yada; and logistically that could take some time. Certainly I am wrong on this, I guess I am just weary from all the fodder.

......really???  because if

......really???  because if these were players from Duke or State..you and the UNC press would be dragging this out for weeks...perhaps even months...a few days of discomfort for the UNC fans does not seem overly excessive to me....suck it up, big boy...

Correction

No one at UNC gives a you-know-what about how Dook or State football players are disciplined.  No one called for the State players' heads when they got caught with pot.  Half the people on here are probably unaware of the Dook players with firearms.

...REALLY????  The family

...REALLY????  The family of Jim Valvano would beg to differ.....

Read my post

What does Valvano have to do with NC State or Dook football?

And all was quiet .......

not even a tweet -

They should just let...

the AD and SID do the talking. W. Saunders seems to be kind of hurting himself with his words.

a good idea ....

more often than not .... remaining silent is a very good idea.

The right to remain silent

A very underrated, but useful right to exercise. In these days of media bombardment, one that should be used much more often.

something ...

Marvin Austin should have been doing all along.

Let's see what happens..

..they, of course, have the right to remain silent.....lol!!!!
