GREENSBORO - ACC coordinator of basketball officials John Clougherty announced on Sunday at the conference's media day the NCAA's new "point of emphasis" on excessive celebration.

Clougherty said officials will have a "zero tolerance" policy with excessive player celebration on the court. He defined that type of celebration, which will result in a penalty, as unsportsmanlike.

He gave the examples of a player gesturing to fans or a player dunking and hulking over another player.

Clougherty said he's visited with teams and his message to players is, "Act like you've been there before, we tell them."

Players participating in the ACC's media day responded to the NCAA's new point of emphasis with a variety of opinions. All said they plan to follow the rule, though some questioned the purpose of such a standard.

"Are you going to keep your emotions inside of you?" Maryland senior guard Greivis Vasquez asked. "I guess that's what they want you to do. We're just going to follow the rules. It's going to be a little tough."
