More ACC games rule the Pick Six fun in Week 9.
I had my best week ever, sadly at 4-2, which was not good enough to beat Patrick Stevens, of the Washington Times, who went 5-1.
This week loyal reader Eric Koch, a Virginia Tech fan from Edison, N.J., is the guest picker.
If you'd like to be the guest picker, send me an e-mail and state your case.
On with the games:
Virginia Tech @ Florida State
When: Saturday, 3:30
TV: ABC
Line: FSU by 5
Said it before and I'll say it again, FSU's the best team in the ACC. Defense, special teams and the running game have carried the team and will continue to do so.
Picks: Tudor (FSU), Giglio (FSU), Koch (VT)
N.C. State @ Maryland
When: Saturday, 3:30
TV: none
Line: Maryland by 11
They're up, they're down, they're Maryland. This should be a downer for the Terps, given the see-saw nature of the season, but I just think State will outscore them.
Russell Wilson's better than Marc Verica and look at the numbers Verica put up against the Terps' D.
I'm in the minority with this opinion.
Picks: Tudor (Md), Giglio (State), Koch (Md)
Boston College @ UNC
When: Saturday, noon
TV: Raycom
Line: UNC by 3
How good is Boston College really? The Eagles' wins are over Kent, UCF, Rhode Island, State and Virginia Tech, which is obviously their best win.
UNC's offense gets a step better without Brandon Tate and the defense, which has created turnovers, feasts on BC's error-prone offense.
Picks: Tudor (UNC), Giglio (UNC), Koch (BC)
Penn State @ Ohio State
When: Saturday, 8
TV: ABC
Line: Penn State by 2.5
Penn State's inability to win at Ohio State vs. Ohio State's inability to stop the spread offense.
Michigan was PSU's letdown. The Nits are ready to make a statement against the fractured Bucks.
Picks: Tudor (OSU), Giglio (PSU), Koch (OSU)
Duke @ Vanderbilt
When: Saturday, 3
TV: none
Line: Vanderbilt by 10.5
Contrary to David Cutcliffe's public proclamations, Duke's done, at least in terms of bowl eligibility, something Vanderbilt will do for the first time since 1982 with a win.
Tudor's on dream street.
Picks: Tudor (Duke), Giglio (Vandy), Koch (Vandy)
Wake Forest @ Miami
When: Saturday, noon
TV: ESPNU
Line: Miami by3
Miami's just not that good. The Canes should have lost to Duke. Wake, a desperate Wake, won't be so generous in the second half.
Picks: Tudor (Wake), Giglio (Wake), Koch (Miami)

I bet the guest picker
Thu, 10/23/2008 - 21:36 — UNCAlumnusgoes 0 fer. That's just my guess, though. I hope he's enjoyed himself, and is dressed warm up in NJ. boo chilly.
surely he gets one
Thu, 10/23/2008 - 22:25 — gvillegatrI know I said DUIke had a better offense than Wakes but surely DUIke will not beat Vandy???
Maybe
Thu, 10/23/2008 - 22:27 — melvinfurdIt's pretty hard to go 0-6, but anything is possible.
Maybe he took the George Costanza approach - every instinct George ever had was wrong, so he decided to do the exact opposite.
Koch = 2-4 or 3-3
Sat, 10/25/2008 - 18:41 — melvinfurdKoch missed: FSU/VPI, NCU/BC, Dook/Vandy
Koch correctly picked: MD/State, Miami/Wake
To be played - Ohio State/Penn State (Koch picked - oh, I don't know or care - who in the heck did he pick?) In any event, he's .500 or .333 - neither being very good.
Koch does not go 0-6
Sat, 10/25/2008 - 14:36 — melvinfurdKoch got Miami over Wake correct so he isn't going 0-6!
I agree
Thu, 10/23/2008 - 14:09 — gvillegatrWake is no DUIke. but DUIkes offense is a heck of alot better than Wakes. tricky plays worked the last 2-3 years, but thy have caught up with the Deacs. Marve will start, for Miami, but Harris always comes in and he'll stay in like last week.
put it to you this way. 1st team to score 17 pts will win? i'll take the under in this game ... whatever it is.
Fake
Thu, 10/23/2008 - 12:38 — gvillegatrwhen are you guys going to realize WFU simply is not that good. Wake cannot run the football to save their lives and Miami may have found their guy in Jacory Harris. the only thing going in Fakes favor will be the lack of a football crowd. Can't imagine 15,000 people at this game.
Yes, but
Thu, 10/23/2008 - 12:51 — jpg (author)Harris is not the starter, Robert Marve is and Wake is a better defensive team than Duke, so those 49 points will turn into 14 and Wake should bring heat this week after getting embarrassed by Maryland.
Now if Wake lays an egg this time, I'm on board with you.
Something tells me they won't tho.
