Pick Six: Week 8

Bookmark and Share
Tags: ACC Now | Pick Six

Finally a full week of ACC games and they dominate the Pick Six card in Week 8.

Tudor won Week 7, going 4-2, edging James Curle of Yet Another N.C. State Blog (3-3). I was a brutal 1-5 and am in danger of getting voted off my own contest.

The guest picker this week is Patrick Stevens, the Maryland beat writer for the Washington Times. If something happens with the Terps, Stevens has it covered. Check out his D1scourse blog, which also has his Week 8 picks in detail.

On with the games:

FSU @ N.C. State

When: tonight, 7:45
TV: ESPN
Line: FSU by 11

Chuck Amato's return to Carter-Finley Stadium is secondary to Florida State's pursuit of the Atlantic Division title. Effectively two games behind Wake, because of the 12-3 loss on Sept. 20, FSU probably needs to go 7-1 in the ACC — and hope Wake goes 6-2 — to win the division.

Road games have been FSU's downfall, 10-11 since 2004, including a loss at State in 2006.

Picks: Tudor (FSU), Giglio (FSU), Stevens (FSU)

Wake Forest @ Maryland

When: Saturday, noon
TV: Raycom
Line: Wake by 2

The Deacs are riding high after beating Clemson, which ultimately cost Tommy Bowden his job, and taking control of the Atlantic.

The Terps are in the tank after a 31-0 loss at Virginia on Oct. 4. Perfect setup for the Fridge.

Picks: Tudor (Wake), Giglio (Md), Stevens (Md)

UNC @ Virginia

When: Saturday, 3:30
TV: ABC
Line: UNC by 4.5

The Heels are a better team than Virginia, no dispute there, but the Hoos are improving, to Al Groh's credit, and they are especially tough at home, especially against the baby blue.

The adjustment without Brandon Tate will take longer to figure out than the one without T.J. Yates did.

Picks: Tudor (UNC), Giglio (UVa), Stevens (UVa)

Miami @ Duke

When: Saturday, 3:30
TV: ESPNU
Line: Miami by 4.5

Duke's due for a better effort than the one it gave against Georgia Tech, certainly on offense. Then again, so is Miami. If Duke is going to a bowl, the Devils HAVE to win this game.

Picks: Tudor (Duke), Giglio (Miami), Stevens (Miami)

Missouri @ Texas

When: Saturday, 8
TV: ABC
Line: Texas by 5.5

Letdown time (see the Mizzou entry) in Austin.

Picks: Tudor (Texas), Giglio (Mizzou), Stevens (Texas)

Virginia Tech @ Boston College

When: Saturday, 8
TV: ESPN
Line: BC by 3

Matt Ryan beat the Hokies essentially by himself last season in Blacksburg. The Hokies won the rematch in the ACC title game. The Hokies are just better this time around.

Picks: Tudor (BC), Giglio (VT), Stevens (VT)

jpg, i dont think you could pick cotton in mississsippi

giglio, you are just

giglio,
you are just begging for unc not to be 11-1.
what is it you have a bet with tudor?

So JPG sees UNC winning 10, but losing to UVa?

I watched you say that on Joe's "show" on another blog. I guess they'll need to win out after week 7. I don't see it that way. I think they'll win a hard fought game Saturday. It should be a fun game.

i said could...

win 10 games, not that they will.

— JPG

If you say they are going to lose to UVa

are you not, in effect, saying they will not win 10 games? I certainly think they will have a time with GT. Anyway, not questioning you seriously. It's all in fun. Although, I sometimes forget, it's your job. I'm sure you enjoy it. Have a good day.

no love for pack this week

I can't Beleive it, Tudor didn't pick State for once!!! It's about time you got off of their wagon.
