Pick Six: Week 7

Bookmark and Share

After going with a Tar Heel guest picker last week, it's only fair to go with a Wolfpacker this week.

James Curle, Yet Another N.C. State Blog author and all-around renaissance man, joins us. He's inspired to match Tar Heel Fan's victory over Team ACC Now from Week 6

On with the games:

Clemson @ No. 21 Wake Forest

When: tonight, 7:45
TV: ESPN
Line: Wake by 2

Tommy Bowden's trademark is to pull one out of the fire at the exact moment he's about to be unemployed and this situation qualifies. He's not going to out-coach Jim Grobe but the health of Wake kicker Sam Swank will be the difference in a close, low-scoring game.

Picks: Tudor (Clemson), Giglio (Clemson), Curle (Clemson)

No. 4 LSU @ No. 11 Florida

When: Saturday, 8 p.m.
TV: ESPN
Line: Florida by 6

That Florida almost beat LSU last year in Baton Rouge, a 28-24 squeaker, gives the Gators confidence that they can win on their home field this year. The start time and location scream Gators but I just can't get past how good LSU's offensive line, and defensive line for that matter, has been.

Unless Tebow explodes, which is entirely possible, LSU wins.

Picks: Tudor (Florida), Giglio (LSU), Curle (Florida)

No. 1 Oklahoma vs. No. 5 Texas

When: Saturday, noon
TV: ABC
Line: Oklahoma by 7

For two teams almost always ranked in the top 5, this game is almost never close. Last year's game, a 28-21 OU win, was the first decided by single digits since 1997. Honestly, I don't think this one will be close either.

Texas isn't that good. Mack's Horns have risen through the rankings because teams have fallen in front of them. They are essentially the same team that went 10-3 last year, not that there's anything wrong with that, just that they're not good enough to beat Oklahoma.

Picks: Tudor (Texas), Giglio (Oklahoma), Curle (Oklahoma)

ECU @ Virginia

When: Saturday, noon
TV: Raycom
Line: ECU by 5.5

Virginia's not as bad as its 31-3 loss to Duke and it is not as good as its 31-0 win over Maryland. The Hoos will find their level this week against a psychologically-wounded ECU team which has had a bye week to get over back-to-back losses.

Picks: Tudor (ECU), Giglio (ECU), Curle (Virginia)

Notre Dame @ No. 22 UNC

When: Saturday, 3:30
TV: ABC
Line: UNC by 7.5

How good is Notre Dame? How good is UNC? They're both 4-1 and we still don't know the answer about either team. This game will tell us more about ND than UNC.

Big ups to Curle for picking against the Heels, following suit of his UNC counterpart, who picked against State last week.

Picks: Tudor (UNC), Giglio (UNC), Curle (Notre Dame)

Ohio @ Kent State

When: Saturday, 2:30
TV: none
Line: Ohio by 1

I'm going to let Curle handle the analysis:

"Two bad 1-5 teams that don't take care of the football. The only thing either one of these two teams does well is Kent State can run the ball. Its rushing offense ranks 23rd in the country. Ohio's rush defense is atrocious, and the Bobcats are playing on the road."

Picks: Tudor (Ohio), Giglio (Kent State), Curle (Kent State)

since NCSU isn't playing this week...

this means
1) hopefully there won't be any more injuries
2) we have to support James in his bid to take down the mighty N&O.

That's not true, Not all unc

That's not true, Not all unc fans care just about basketball. I've been a unc fan since i was born, and I pull for unc in all sports, not just basketball. I was even a loyal fan during the bunting era, and I actually liked bunting. I will say I am an ECU fan now, since I have graduated from there and also working on my masters from there, but I still love the heels no matter what.

So, JPG, for my picks this week
Clemson
Florida
Oklahoma
ECU
UNC
Ohio

I'm still the only guest picked that has gone 6-0 against team acc now!!

Joe, thanks for the opportunity

Joe, thanks for the opportunity to be the guest picker this week.

I can only hope that I not only best you and "Toots," but that I don't fare worse in a football pick-'em contest than a Tar Heel fan. Because as we all know, Tar Heel fans only know the game of basketball and care nothing for the game of football.
