Big ups to Team ACC Now, we finally didn't lose to a guest picker. Caulton Tudor and special guest picker Joe Ovies tied at 3-3 last week. And like baseball, tie goes to the runner.
The week's guest is the creator/author of the excellent Tar Heel Fan blog.
On with the games:
When: tonight, 9
TV: Versus
Line: Utah by 11.5
Of all the games the Mountain West has had against the Pac-10, this is the one the conference needs the most. A win by Utah gives the MWC a direct link to USC, which lost to the Beavers.
You should see the Utes "A game," given the national stage and a chance to show they're better than that other Utah team.
And Vegas is obviously banking on a letdown for the Beavers. So are we.
Picks: Tudor (Utah), Giglio (Utah), Tar Heel Fan (Utah)
When: Saturday, noon
TV: Raycom
Line: BC by 9
N.C. State has to be better than it showed last week against USF. It's usually in this spot, when you're ready to give up on them, in both basketball and football, that the Wolfpack reels its fan base back in with a surprise win, only to inevitably disappoint the next game.
BC, at 3-1, has lost to the only real team it has played (Georgia Tech) and that was at home. The Eagles' version of the spread offense will eventually be great with Dominique Davis but not yet.
Tom O'Brien, commissioner of the No Fun League, changes the name on the scoreboard to "Boston Carolina" and continues his dominance of "Carolina" teams.
Picks: Tudor (State), Giglio (State), Tar Heel Fan (BC)
When: Saturday, 8
TV: ABC
Line: Wisconsin by 1.5
The Buckeyes are in their comfort zone here as the Big Ten schedule hits full stride. The Sweatervest is 23-2 against the conference since 2005. Of course, one of those losses was the last trip to Camp Randall but Beanie Wells is back and the Terrelle Pryor Era is officially here.
Picks: Tudor (tOSU), Giglio (tOSU), Tar Heel Fan (tOSU)
When: Saturday, 3:30
TV: ABC
Line: Miami by 2.5
Note the lack of a ranking next to either team. You can stop wondering what's wrong with the ACC now.
It won't be pretty, it almost never is between these two, but the hitting will be fierce, as will the smack talk.
I still say FSU, with all of its players back, is your 2008 ACC champion.
Picks: Tudor (FSU), Giglio (FSU), Tar Heel Fan (Miami)
When: Saturday, 6
TV: ESPN2
Line: Auburn by 4
It's October and Vandy leads the SEC East at 2-0. After a subpar effort in beating Tennessee, expect a fastball from Auburn. We'll see if Vandy can handle big-league pitching.
Picks: Tudor (Auburn), Giglio (Auburn), Tar Heel Fan (Auburn)
When: Saturday, 4
TV: Versus
Line: Air Force by 6
Paul Johnson won his last 10 games against Air Force and Navy. Ken Niumatalolo will lose his first. The Mids would rather have this game than the big upset at Wake last week.
Picks: Tudor (Air Force), Giglio (Air Force), Tar Heel Fan (Navy)
Comments
Pick 6
Thu, 10/02/2008 - 18:59 — JPDOhioUtah- home team advantage, PAC-10 disadvantage.
NC State- Wilson is the difference.
OSU- Pryor gets better each game, Wisconsin couldn't hold lead against Michigan.
Miami- home team, more disciplined.
Auburn- just can't believe in Vandy, though I want to.
Air Force- Navy overachieved last week, won't happen this week.
