Pick Six: Week 5

The special guest picker is Joe Ovies of 850 the Buzz. Remember to watch Low Rent Sports Talk Theatre and The Podcast.

Last week's guest Darren LeRose, kicked Team ACC Now, with a 5-1 record.

LeRose saw the Yankees win the final game at Yankee Stadium on Sunday and would like everyone to know that makes up for the two World Series losses he saw in person at the Stadium.

On with the picks:

UConn @ Louisville

When: Friday, 8
TV: ESPN2
Line: Louisville by 3.5

Somebody has to win the Big East, it could be one of these two teams. UConn's unbeaten but the wins are over Hofstra, Temple, UVa and Baylor.

Louisville found life, and another star running back in freshman Victor Anderson, with a made-for-ESPN Wednesday night win over Kansas State. The Cards are a tough out at home.

Picks: Tudor (Louisville), Giglio (Louisville), Ovies (UConn)

Virginia Tech @ Nebraska

When: Saturday, 8
TV: ABC
Line: Nebraska by 7

Here's your chance Frank Beamer honks, if VT beats Nebraska, I'll admit he's a better coach than Jim Grobe, who went 0-2 against bad Nebraska teams.

This one, under new coach Bo Pelini, is better than any unit under the departed Beau Callahan.

Picks: Tudor (Nebraska), Giglio (Nebraska), Ovies (Nebraska)

Virginia @ Duke

When: Saturday, noon
TV: ESPNU
Line: Duke by 7

The last time Virginia went to Durham, the Hoos were expected to lose, or at least get a game from Duke. UVa won that game in 2006 by a final score of 37-0.

This one will be closer than that but the result will be the same.

Picks: Tudor (Duke), Giglio (Virginia), Ovies (Duke)

No. 8 Alabama @ No. 3 Georgia

When: Saturday, 7:45
TV: ESPN
Line: Georgia by 7

Are we sure Alabama's not the best team in the SEC? We'll find out because as good as Georgia's running game and defense have been, the Dawgs haven't seen an offensive or defensive line like the Tide's.

Picks: Tudor (Georgia), Giglio (Georgia), Ovies (Georgia)

No. 22 Illinois @ No. 12 Penn State

When: Saturday, 8
TV: ABC
Line: Penn State by 14.5

No respect for the Zooker from Vegas here. If you think UConn's resume is soft, look at Penn State's: Coastal Carolina, Oregon State, Temple and Syracuse.

The start time and location will be the difference in Happy Valley.

Picks: Tudor (Penn State), Giglio (Penn State), Ovies (Penn State)

N.C. State QBs vs. UNC QBs

Which backup(s) will throw more interceptions in their respective games on Saturday?

Given Harrison Beck's propensity for throwing to the wrong team, the Heels should cover in a walk but Mike Paulus threw two picks in eight attempts last week and Cam Sexton hasn't taken a meaningful snap since 2006.

Picks: Tudor (State), Giglio (State), Ovies (UNC)

6-0 last week punks! it

6-0 last week punks! it seems most of you let your biases get in the way of making intellegent picks last week. here's mine:

1) too late on this one
2) VT
3) UVA
4) Bama
5) Penn St
6) what kinda crap is this??? who cares who throws more interceptions? both state and unc lose today...but for the sake of this post, unc looks worse at QB

Loserville -- home team VT

Loserville -- home team

VT -- yall will see UNC's defense is better than the Black Shirts.

DUIke -- getting off the ACC shnide this weekend

Jawja -- Bammer still ahsnt played anyone

Penn St -- best team in the Big Televen

USF -- barely.

Bammer

1. Clemson doesn't count as "anyone".

2. Tulane almost beat....oh, never mind.

still got ECU on your mind

still got ECU on your mind JPD!?  no worries, so do the rest of the NCSU fans who claim the rivalry is not important!!

ClemPson hasnt beaten anyone worth a darn and got destroyed in a game they were favored in.  so, nope, Bammer has not played anyone as of yet.

i've never claimed to be 100% right, but i'm right about Elephants not playing anybody just yet.  we'll see 745 pm on espn saturday night.  anything can happen as I havent gone 6-0 yet.

Couldn't resist getting a dig in

But, for the record, I am not in the camp that believes the rivalry is not important.

I think Alabama is the real deal, but you could be right. We'll find out Saturday night.

I really need to start

I really need to start proof reading.

anyway, we'll see like you said.  Jawja and Bammer wont mean anything to me, but it will my cousin whose a sophmore at Tuscaloosa.  I hope they lose.  maybe my hatred for the Devil looms too large to be objective.

My Picks

Lousiville- home field is the difference.

Nebraska- home field advantage to team on the way up, led by an outstanding young coach with Youngstown Cardinal Mooney High background.

Duke- UVa is as bad as JP says they are (so why did he pick them?)

Alabama- Underrated team beats overrated team.

Penn State- Nittany Lions win first real test under leadership of Youngstown Ursuline's Darryl Clark. (Watching Illini lose with Daughter's Illinois season ticket holding boyfriend- Priceless!)

NC State QB's- as I have said before, I admire Harrison Beck for sticking with the Pack this year. But I am convinced he is color-blind.

I went 3-3 last week, by far

I went 3-3 last week, by far my worst week of the season. I'm still 18-6 on the season. this week I've got

Louisville
Nebraska
Duke
Georgia
Penn State
State
