Pick Six: Week 2

Bookmark and Share

After Week 1 of the Pick Six Contest, the e-mail inbox was flooded with would-be contestants. That's because Caulton Tudor went 3-3 and I went, ahem, 2-4.

To review, we'll pick six college football games (straight up) each Thursday. If you'd like to be a guest picker, e-mail jp.giglio@newsobserver.com and tell me why. I will arbitrarily pick the picker. If you outpick both Tudor and me, you get to use this space as you wish — plug your web site, tell the world how great your team is, etc. — some restrictions apply.

This week's guest picker is Doug Lynn, who works for N.C. State and is a proud Wolfpacker. He even admits this after the South Carolina game, so he's a true fan.

On with the games:

Navy @ Ball State

When: Friday, 7
TV: ESPN2
Line: Ball State by 7

Navy started strong without coach Paul Johnson in trouncing Towson. Ball State and quarterback Nate Davis might be the best team in the MAC, for whatever that's worth.

Picks: Tudor (Ball State), Giglio (Ball State), Lynn (Ball State)

Georgia Tech @ Boston College

When: Saturday, noon
TV: WRAL
Line: BC by 7

BC ranked second in the country in rushing defense in 2007, allowing less than 76 yards per game. The Eagles also beat Paul Johnson's best Navy team in 2006 in the Tire Bowl.

Picks: Tudor (BC), Giglio (BC), Lynn (BC)

Northwestern @ Duke

When: Saturday, 7
TV: none
Line: Northwestern by 6.5

Duke's only win in 2007 was over the Wildcats, 20-14 in Evanston. The strange thing about Northwestern is it went on to win three Big Ten games and six overall.

Duke looked different in the opener. The Devils should have confidence from Week 1 and from beating NW last season.

Picks: Tudor (Northwestern), Giglio (Duke), Lynn (Northwestern)

West Virginia @ ECU

When: Saturday, 4:30
TV: ESPN
Line: West Virginia by 8

Seems like every other year this series is close. The Neers won 48-7 last year so do the math.

Picks: Tudor (ECU), Giglio (WVU), Lynn (WVU)

Ole Miss @ Wake Forest

When: Saturday, 3:30
TV: WTVD
Line: Wake by 8

The Rebels didn't score 41 points once in three seasons under Ed Orgeron. They hit that number in Houston Nutt's first game, a 41-24 beatdown of Memphis.

Wake also scored 41 points but the Deacs have the better coach.

Picks: Tudor (Wake), Giglio (Wake), Lynn (Wake)

Western Kentucky @ Eastern Kentucky

When: Saturday, 6
TV: Are you kidding?

You know what they say: Throw out the records when the Colonels and Hilltoppers get together. Or something like that.

Picks: Tudor (Eastern), Giglio (Western), Lynn (Western)
