Tudor, Gville Gatr and I all went 3-3 last week, which no doubt gives ACC Now's No. 1 commenter some measure of satisfaction.
Everyone gets to be the guest picker this week. Leave your picks in the comments. Whoever picks the most winners gets a shoutout in next week's finale.
On with the games:
Miami @ Georgia Tech
When: tonight, 7:45
TV: ESPN
Line: GT by 3.5
Georgia Tech can't be as bad as it showed in Chapel Hill. Coming off a long rest, the Jackets should be able to outsmart the Canes, who are due for an emotional letdown.
Picks: Tudor (Miami), Giglio (GT)
N.C. State @ UNC
When: Saturday, noon
TV: Raycom
Line: UNC by 11
There's no doubt this game was John Bunting's Super Bowl, winning four times in six games. Will Butch Davis put the same emphasis on this game that Bunting, a UNC alum, did?
Tom O'Brien has stated publicly several times that these games, the ones with "Carolina" in them or against in-state opponents, matter more than other games. State won the first TOB-Butch Bowl, 31-27 in Raleigh last year.
So far, his players have listened, going 4-1 against in-state opponents. Compare that to Chuck Amato, 3-4 against awful UNC teams, who treated Florida State (4-3) as his Super Bowl.
Motivations and rivalries should make this a competitive game. UNC has little more talent on both sides of the ball, though, and after a stomach-punch loss to Maryland, should be eager to finish the home schedule on a positive note.
Picks: Tudor (UNC), Giglio (UNC)
Clemson @ Virginia
When: Saturday, noon
TV: Raycom (split)
Line: Clemson by 2.5
The toughest part about picking games in November is determining who still cares. Clemson (5-5) needs to win out to get to a bowl (because they can't count both I-AA wins). Virginia (5-5) needs one win, which would be a major accomplishment given how this season started.
Virginia has been too good at home under Al Groh to ignore. Clemson had its last hurrah last week against Duke.
Picks: Tudor (UVa), Giglio (UVa)
Boston College @ Wake Forest
When: Saturday, 3:30
TV: ABC
Line: Wake by 2
Interesting dynamic last week in Raleigh between Riley Skinner, the veteran, and Russell Wilson, the rookie. Skinner couldn't make that one last play to bring his team to the Atlantic Division title.
Despite the loss, the Deacs are only one Maryland loss away from Tampa. BC has been solid on the road but Chris Crane's mistakes will catch up to them against a Wake team that should have Sam Swank back. Never has a kicker been so important to an ACC program.
Picks: Tudor (Wake), Giglio (Wake)
Florida State @ Maryland
When: Saturday, 7:45
TV: ESPN
Line: Maryland by 1.5
For the old Florida State, this game would have qualified as a "sod cemetery" game. Let me know when you find the old Florida State.
Maryland's at home (6-0) but FSU's unranked. Something has to give there and it's probably Florida State's awful offensive line. Next week, the Terps take a header. Next week, the Noles play their Super Bowl.
Picks: Tudor (Md), Giglio (Md)
Texas Tech @ Oklahoma
When: Saturday, 8
TV: ABC
Line: Oklahoma by 7
The start time brings to mind Barry Switzer's best line — "Norman's a drinking town with a football problem." There's no way Bob Stoops pulls a Stoops here, is there? Nah, it's not a BCS game.
Picks: Tudor (Texas Tech), Giglio (Oklahoma)
