Quarterback Russell Wilson and leading tackler Nate Irving will not play against South Florida because of injuries, N.C. State coach Tom O'Brien said Monday during his weekly news conference.
O'Brien said both players are out indefinitely but declined to elaborate on Wilson's specific injury. Wilson suffered a Grade 3 concussion in the Aug. 28 season opener against South Carolina and returned to play at quarterback 16 days later at Clemson.
On Saturday, Wilson, a redshirt freshman, had the best game of his career in a 30-24 overtime win over East Carolina, passing for 210 yards and three touchdowns.
Irving suffered an injury to his right lower leg on Saturday. He leads N.C. State with 34 tackles, including six tackles for loss, and three interceptions.
Harrison Beck is listed as the starter, with Daniel Evans as the backup.
Beck is 25-for-44 for 353 yards this season with two touchdown passes and three interceptions.
He passed for 246 yards in a little more than two quarters to lead N.C. State to a win over William & Mary on Sept. 6.
But on Saturday, he threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown by Esat Carolina's Van Eskridge and lost a fumble in the closing seconds of the second quarter.
Freshman Dwayne Maddox will replace Irving in the starting lineup.

Actually mad-max, I got to
Thu, 09/25/2008 - 12:48 — Anonymous (not verified)Actually mad-max, I got to State and I talk to the players. I wont give names, but they said it. Get it? THEY said it, not me. I am a loyal State fan for life. My dream was to go to State as a kid, so I dont wanna hear any of that. I will support whoever we put on the field, but facts are facts, idiot.
no worries. this is not a
Wed, 09/24/2008 - 00:35 — mad_maxno worries. this is not a super important game for the pack, so i don't blame TOB for being a little cautious. let's keep are weapons safe until the big games.
My opinion!!
Mon, 09/22/2008 - 21:50 — gvillegatrI like Becks chances against USF. look at what Reisling (wine or KU football QB!?) did against them the other night. he was able to get the ball down the field which Beck can do better than Wilson. I honestly look for a game that goes down to the wire against the over rated Bulls saturday night.
USF has a reputation
Tue, 09/23/2008 - 16:32 — UNCAlumnusOf not coming through when it counts. Perhaps this will be the first occurence, Wolfpack fans. Best of luck.
I hope you are right
Tue, 09/23/2008 - 13:27 — JPDOhioMy biggest problem with Beck is that he is kind of like a young Nolan Ryan. Impressive arm, but all over the place.
Wilson gives the Pack its best chance to win, but if he isn't available then he isn't available. Beck is the best choice to start in his place and should finish the game no matter how things go.
So give him the reins, stick with him to the end and hope the running game and the defense are effective enough to keep the Pack close.
Is every one State plays

Irving has an ankle injury,
Wed, 09/24/2008 - 00:32 — mad_maxIrving has an ankle injury, and Wilson has a shoulder injury. you know what's really wussy though? being the backup QB and coming into a game late with a 17-3 lead on VT only to blow it.
I ...
Mon, 09/22/2008 - 17:02 — Mike (not verified)... give up.
Hopefully
Mon, 09/22/2008 - 16:45 — JPDOhioBoth are minor and they can be back for ACC games. My hope is that TOB is being cautious like he was with Wilson against W&M. We need both of those guys, but no sense in having those injuries nag for weeks.
WHY GOD WHY

Wolfpackers, don't get down
Mon, 09/22/2008 - 15:53 — Wolfpack Brooks (not verified)Wolfpackers, don't get down and out about a few more injuries we have a ton of them and still found a way to beat ECU who is a pretty good football team, we have to be loud this week just like we were playing ECU again, we can't control injuries but we can support Harrison Beck and be loud as hell

Mon, 09/22/2008 - 15:06 — Anonymous (not verified)From what I hear, the players feel that they are being worked too hard during the week. They do three a days! The players are saying they are 80% at best come game time. This came straight from the players mouths. This is getting really damn ridiculous though. Cmon man!! 12 injuries and 10 of them are starters!! Enough is enough!
i'm with jpdohio....if they
Wed, 09/24/2008 - 00:28 — mad_maxi'm with jpdohio....if they don't like it, they can quit. there are still guys that are buying in, as evident with the big win last saturday. anyways, something tells me that you are most likely just some idiot trying to start up trouble.
Too bad
Mon, 09/22/2008 - 19:53 — JPDOhioIf any player doesn't like it, he can either adjust or quit. Apparently there are still some who pine for the Amato Country Club atmosphere.

Why oh why....
Mon, 09/22/2008 - 14:10 — Mark_Wolfpacker (not verified)Lord, can't we finish at least one game without a major injury? Can somebody hire a priest to go remove the curse from our field??? I'm beginning to think Carter Finley is built over an old indian burial ground.
