N.C. State guard Duran Christophe will be out up to four weeks and possibly the season opener with a knee injury, Wolfpack football coach Tom O'Brien said Thursday.
Christophe suffered a meniscus tear and had surgery on Wednesday. The redshirt sophomore started the Wolfpack's bowl game last season and was slated to be the starting left guard. O'Brien said Christophe could be out three to four weeks. N.C. State's opener is three weeks from Saturday.
The injury tests State's depth at guard. Andrew Wallace, who started 11 games at left guard last season, is out until October while he recovers from knee surgery. Reserve Torian Box left the program in the offseason.
Andy Jomantas and Wayne Crawford are listed as the backup guards on the depth chart if Christophe doesn't return before the Liberty game on Sept. 3. Veteran tackle R.J. Mattes, who played guard earlier in his career, is another option.

May this injury be the ONLY the Wolfpack suffers.
no worries

Whew
Sun, 08/14/2011 - 23:28 — mad_maxYeah, good thing we don't have to play somebody like James Madison for the season opener. Then, we would surely have something to worry about.
MY worries
Fri, 08/12/2011 - 13:23 — YAR8packEver notice the bombed out and depleted rosters NCSU was left with after the injury plagued seasons of 2008 and 2009? THAT's my worry.
Not saying NC State would've won 3-4 more games those years, but it damn sure would've helped had those teams had some depth.
understandable
