Pack vs. Pitt swayed Hunter

Bookmark and Share

N.C. State's come-from-behind, 38-31 defeat of Pittsburgh on Saturday night helped deliver one of the top prospects in North Carolina.

Cary High senior Fre'Shad Hunter said Sunday that the Wolfpack's performance in the win helped him make the decision to commit to N.C. State after the game. He said N.C. State was one of the first teams to offer him a scholarship and has been his top choice throughout his recruitment.

"It's a dream come true," he said. "I grew up watching N.C. State, seeing all the fans, watching them on TV. Now I'm going to be playing for them. It's crazy."

Rivals.com rates Hunter as the fifth-best prospect in North Carolina. He is a 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds and is expected to play defensive end in college. Hunter also had Florida State, LSU and Tennessee among his finalists.

Hunter gives N.C. State three commitments among rivals.com's top seven prospects in North Carolina. Two of those top seven prospects remain uncommitted.

Athens Drive offensive lineman Robert Crisp and Southern Durham wide receiver Anthony Creecy are the other highly rated in-state commitments in the Wolfpack's class.

Did NC State play this past

Did NC State play this past weekend? I'm not sure after looking through ACC Now. Seriously, how come there's STILL no recap of the game? What's going on? I don't understand. I know you're not trying to prove a point to those that have accused you of being State homers, so what's the real reason we have no recap?

just thinking...

the same thing albeit more generally... since you guys have moved to the new web layout, which i like, its like there's less articles.

Must be on vacation.

great news...

saw this on another site but it just goes to show what winning does. I hope the NCSU schedule makers realize that playing 1-AA teams has its place, but recruits wanna play against the best from around the country, win or lose. So keep scheduling a great OOC schedule. Ken, why didn't you do a chat this week?

1-AA teams

I am pretty sure that the only reason State played two 1-AA teams this year is because ECU backed out of a commitment. That happens every now and then, and when it does, it is awful hard to fill the opening with a quality opponent.

That said, I think having those two 1-AA games worked to the Pack's advantage this year. They needed the game exposure for some of their young guys and it paid off against Pitt at the end of the game.

I do agree that normally it is better to avoid having two 1-AA opponents in one year.
