N.C. State and UNC fans will need access to cable television in order to see Friday’s NCAA opening games for both teams.

When the 11th-seeded Wolfpack (22-11) starts in the Midwest Regional with a game against No. 6 San Diego State (26-7) at 12:40 p.m., the game is scheduled for coverage on truTV _ channel 44 on the Time-Warner system in the Raleigh-Durham area.

Midwest No. 1 seed UNC (29-5) will face No. 16 Lamar (23-11) at 4:15 p.m. Friday on TBC _ channel 34 on the Time-Warner system.

Duke (27-6) is seeded No. 2 in the South and will open at 7:15 p.m. Friday against No. 15 Lehigh (26-7) on CBS _ over-the-air channel 5 WRAL in Raleigh-Durham. On Time-Warner cable, WRAL is channel 3 in the Triangle.

But if you want to look ahead to the Round of 32 games on Sunday, forget it. The TV assignments for those games haven’t been set yet by the NCAA.

There is no specific NCAA/TV timetable for determining Saturday and Sunday games. Last season, the Sunday game times and TV assignments weren’t made until Saturday morning.

A State win in Columbus, O. would send the Pack against either No. 3 Georgetown or No. 14 Belmont on Sunday.

In Greensboro, UNC would face either No. 8 Creighton or No. 9 Alabama on Sunday.

Also in Greensboro, Duke would face either No. 7 Notre Dame or No. 10 Xavier.
