After receiving negative feedback from fans, N.C. State has scrapped a new design for its men's basketball jerseys, athletics director Lee Fowler said Tuesday morning.
Last week, N.C. State displayed its new jersey design on its Twitter page. The jersey featured a small "NC" on the front and a much larger "STATE" underneath.
Fowler said it was an attempt by coach Sidney Lowe and assistant Monte Towe to re-emphasize the "STATE," which was the only word on the jerseys during their playing days.
The response from fans on the Twitter site was overwhelmingly negative.
"The students didn't like it," Fowler said.
N.C. State instead will use jerseys similar to those from last season, Fowler said. The jerseys are provided by adidas, which has an apparel deal with the school.

Why should a school like Michigan State get to have nothing but "State" on the front of their jerseys, and not us? "State" is how people refer to the university in short around here, and that jersey would be a nod to the program's rich heritage.

I don't agree with those who think the fan base should have been ignored on this issue. There is a huge difference between letting fan reaction influence the choice of jerseys as opposed to who plays and who doesn't.
Kudos to State's athletic department for responding on this issue, which is cosmetic and relatively inexpensive to fix.

Every State alum, fan, even detractor, I talked to said the jerseys were awful. Sid didn't like them. I seriously doubt the players liked them. Fowler listened to the fanbase. That's not always such a bad thing.
How soon people forget the gnashing of teeth and angst displayed when UNC tried different jerseys a few years ago. Yes, I guess maybe it should be viewed differently since State's bball team is barely flirting with mediocrity, while UNC is, well, the premier team in College bball these days, but the point remains the same: the jerseys were terrible. Good riddance to that rubbish.

Sometimes you just have to accept the fact that you've made a mistake. And from what I gather, had Sidney been given his druthers, the haphazard "NC" would've been left off and it simply would've said "State." That's a design much more palatable to the people, but someone in the review chain insisted on adding the NC after the fact, resulting in the trainwreck we saw in the pictures.
