Pack QBs and the Ol' Ball Coach

Bookmark and Share

Tom O'Brien holds his first weekly press conference today at 2 p.m. (we'll keep you updated). It was before this press conference last season that O'Brien revealed the starting quarterback for the Central Florida game.

Actually, N.C. State released its game notes with a depth chart hours before O'Brien's pre-UCF press conference. There will be no such surreptitious announcement today, N.C. State's sports information department said in the print edition. O'Brien is even unlikely to reveal the starting QB during his press conference.

N.C. State's assistant SID delivered the unintentional comedy line of the summer when he said O'Brien doesn't want to give South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier extra time to prepare.

Spurrier is a lot of things — successful, smart, divisive, arrogant — but a couch-sleeping, midnight-oil-burning film watcher is not on his impressive resume. Even the OBC worshippers at Every Day Should Be Saturday will get a kick out of that one. Click, Clack ...

george32, if anyone else BUT

george32,

if anyone else BUT Steve Spurrier was your ball coach, you wouldnt feel the way you do about football and curing cancer. furthermore, his team plays like he doesnt spend time in the film room or anywhere else remotely close to the football field. yet you give him a pass which we all know is not true on the inside.

I think its time for Spurrier to sh*t or get off the pot as I like to say. I really hope he gets off and he just might after NCSU goes down to W-B and wins the ball game 9-6.

spurrier

since i have been in sc (35+ years) the only somewhat sustained footbal success the cocks have had was under joe morrison and ad bo marcum.  a number of friends and i spent far too much time and money in the same night sports they frequented.

i guess my real point is that no matter what happens, w-b will sell out and less than 2 miles away you can find some poverty of a horrific kind.

true.   W-B will

true.

W-B will always sell out and USC will always have their back-to-back Outback Bowls to hang their hats on.

the ole ball coach

Amen to your comments on Spurrier. I live in Columbia and it is refreshing to have a coach who understands he is well compensated to teach/run kid's game!! I've seen him eating out with his family at reasonable hours, riding his bike, etc. So many coaches today scare me-they act like they are teaching of performing life saving surgery, curing AIDs, etc. Twelve and 0 or 0 and twelve; cancer will not beu cured. Most of the players have no chance at a pro career so let's treat it like a game. The Bear was a great coach, but he would found sipping a bourbon at night, not asleep on the office couch.
