N.C. State freshman forward Thomas de Thaey has been cleared by the NCAA and will play in tonight's game against Texas in the TicketCity Legends Classic.
De Thaey, from Belgium, sat out the first four games while going through the NCAA Clearinghouse process. N.C. State (3-1) plays the Longhorns at 6:30 p.m. at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J.
De Thaey, a 6-8 forward, played for the Belgian Under-20 national team and at the Canarias Basketball Academy in the Canary Islands, which caused the delay with the NCAA, which had to clear his amateur status.
First-year coach Mark Gottfried signed de Thaey in May, shortly after taking the job with the Wolfpack and likes de Thaey's size (he's listed at 239 pounds) and maturity (he's 20).
In the Wolfpack's only preseason game, de Thaey had eight points and four rebounds in 19 minutes.

JUST IN TIME
Mon, 11/21/2011 - 14:57 — JPDOhioNow the Pack has an extra body to help out when Howell and Painter get into foul trouble and when Calvin's legs cramp up. Looking forward to seeing what this kid can do.
Is it just me, or does he remind anyone else of those kids in the Little League World Series from Puerto Rico or South America who looked (and probably were) 15 years old? Thomas doesn't look 20 to me, but at least there is no age limit to worry about in college hoops. At least I don't think there is.
Good to go
