Pack commit is 6-10 with deep range

Bookmark and Share

North Broward (Fla.) Prep coach Scott Williams said 6-foot-10 Josip Mikulic reminds N.C. State assistant coach Monte Towe of Dwayne Schintzius, a 7-footer who played for Towe and Norm Sloan at Florida in the 1980s and later in the NBA.

Mikulic, a current high school junior who is originally from Croatia, has committed to N.C. State, Williams said.

"He's an extremely good shooter," Williams said. "He has NBA range and is very fundamentally sound for a big kid. He's a good, quality basketball player."

Williams said growing up overseas, where players are known for developing their perimeter skills, helped Mikulic hone a good 3-point stroke. Mikulic also had a late growth spurt.

"Up until two or three years ago he was a guard," Williams said. "He was 6-2, 6-3. He was a perimeter player, and he grew into that body."

Mikulic planned to commit to the first school that showed a commitment to him, and N.C. State was that school, Williams said.

"He's a very loyal kid, and I think he thought Coach [Sidney] Lowe could develop his game," Williams said.

Nice to see some support showing up for Sid. As critical as I have been lately, I am starting to come around to the idea that Sid should be allowed more time with "his" recruits. Frankly, I was impressed with the way they played against Wake. It wasn't so much that they won by a large margin (Wake is seriously horrible). It was that you could see they were trying to apply the things that Sid talks about all the time.

Leslie passed the ball out of the post. Wood moved without the ball inside the arc for some easy, short jumpers. They pushed, took the break when they had it, pulled it out when they didn't. And they hustled on defense for practically all of the game. This is a team that hasn't given up (unlike Wake, who had a rare opportunity to get a home win against a team that was reeling coming in). Throughout, Sid has stayed calm and professional (off the court, not necessarily on).

I would like nothing more than to see State finish strong to show that they are getting what Sid has been trying to teach. I think this team does have a future, with a solid current foundation to be supplemented by recruits who will fit nicely as replacements to players who are graduating.

The alternative would be Sid being fired and the core of this team requesting immediate transfers. If that happens, take one look at Wake this year. Next year's version will be inhabiting the RBC Center.

JPD, you gotta'

be reading my mail(mind).  I said in an earlier post that I would like to see the "fab three" on the floor as much as possible for the rest of this season.  I as hoping that they could develop some cohesiveness and consistency to take forward into next year.   The Wake Forest game, albeit against a bad team, was a good start IMHO.

Maybe Sid is sending them the correct message and they are finally receiving it; I'm willing to give him (them) the benefit of the doubt.  I'm a Wolfpack fan (since 1983); I'm not ready to give up; I'm willing to  give the team AND THE COACH my support the rest of the season.  I'm hoping for a positive ending to all this turmoil, be it this year or next.

Go Lowe

Way to go Monte....great find here. C'mon guys..

Tomorrow nite. We get things started with*** KEEP COACH LOWE.***

gugliotta

A guard that grows to a forward? And shoots 3s?  Sounds like Gugliotta to me.  He was great for us, and will never forget Googs.

Gugliotta was an amazing

Gugliotta was an amazing player who had great range. He was a very smart player who made the best of his attributes. Fun to remember the guy.

Shooters!

Shooters with height.....always an important peice to the puzzle.Way to go staff!  KEEP COACH LOWE.Let him finish what he is building.Keep the faith pack fans.

Skills

Gotta love the European mold players.  State could definitely benefit from his size, and shooters are always welcome.  Hopefully he'll continue to develop those skills and be ready to contribute.

nice

This is a good pick up for the pack. Sounds like a Scott Wood type.

for all the pronoucements of

for all the pronoucements of Sid's coaching demise, it looks like he is pulling in a nice class.

yep

He pulled in a nice class this year, but I guess the expectations just kind of got out of control (for some anyway), imagine that. Which is why, with a little run at the end of this year, I would not be surprised to see him back.

Good class comin'; yes but,

we all know that they have to have a coach (staff) who can teach and develop them into players who reach their full potential and win games.  E.G., the way Jimmy "V" did with T. Gugliotta, V. DelNegro, C. Brown, et.al.

Maybe Sid, if he is still around, can do it;  not saying he can't; just wondering where these talented kids will be (with their games) a couple of years down the road.  I would like to see Sid succeed; I think we all would; maybe it will happen.  In the meantime, the Pack has my support.

me too

Like Mark Twain, news of Sid's demise could be premature.
