O'Brien aware of Gamecocks' woes

Bookmark and Share

The suspension of end Clifton Geathers could leave South Carolina without two key players on the defensive line when the Gamecocks visit N.C. State on Sept. 3 for the season opener.

Wolfpack coach Tom O'Brien admits he is keeping tabs on the Gamecocks' personnel even though the game is more than a week away.

Geathers was arrested for resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness following an incident early Sunday morning, according to The (Columbia) State Newspaper.

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier suspended Geathers indefinitely, until he ascertains that all the facts of the matter have come in. Defensive tackle Ladi Ajiboye already is serving a three-game suspension stemming from an arrest for marijuana possession, The State reported.

O'Brien said Sunday night that his staff reads articles about N.C. State's opponents when possible. He said he was aware of one South Carolina being suspended.

But if he thinks it gives the Wolfpack a better chance of winning, he's not letting on.

"I do know, I've read that they say it's the best team they've ever had," O'Brien said. "So we'd better be ready to go."

The TOB Tune

From what TOB is saying, it looks like they will need all the help they can get. Right.

The song remains the same.

You will always have TOB (and every other smart coach) compliment his next opponent, even when it is unwarranted. Overconfidence will hurt a team as much as injuries and penalties and could be the main reason that upsets happen all the time.

In this case, TOB should be cautious. USC may be down somewhat, but it still is an SEC program. As optimistic as I am about State's potential this season, the Pack is not in a position to take any BCS opponent lightly. I believe that State will beat USC, but only if it comes to play.

a la Lou Holtz at Notre

a la Lou Holtz at Notre Dame.  He'd make his #1 team in the country seem like an underdog when playing a mediocre 1AA (FCS now) school.

Agree

I agree with what you are saying and I know all coaches say this, and rightly so. I was just saying that I don't think that State will have much trouble with South Carolina. BTW, nice Led Zep ref. if intentional.

It was.

As I date myself once again.

Spurrier will always be

Spurrier will always be loved by State folks for hanging 40-0 and the godless social revolutionaries from Orange County.

Spurrier on Geathers

suspended indefintely means Spurrier will decide in the next week what his real punishment will be.

Let me break it down for you guys before it gets doled out for the public.

Spurrier will suspend Geathers for the FAU or SC St game and allow him to play against ncsu "while he collects the rest of the facts."

Oops, wait... facts get in

Oops, wait... facts get in the way of gatr?   My fault dude, I know I'm asking too much.

mirror

right back at ya kid!

C'mon gatr, know your facts

C'mon gatr, know your facts before commenting... it's already a done deal, Geathers will NOT play Sept 3rd, no chance. SC coaches have already emphatically stated it.

cant even take a compliment can ya?

that was a complimnet to the ncsu wolf pack you dumb arse.

i was being a little funny with it, though, considering what Spurrier has done in the past is exactly what I wrote.

"Spurrier will suspend

"Spurrier will suspend Geathers for the FAU or SC St game and allow him
to play against ncsu 'while he collects the rest of the facts.'"

A backhanded compliment if you are saying NCSU is better than FAU or SC St... no kidding.  I would take your comment more of an insult to Spurrier than a compliment to NC State.

But what you wrote was just your supposition, stated as fact... typical of your postings.   Apparantly you didn't know all the facts, in this case, that the SC coaches have suspended Geathers for the NC State game.

You assumed something and stated it as fact, not opinion.  Just like when you claimed CF was empty at the end of the BC game during TOB's last season there.

Like that example, this recent one is proven wrong.

I don't mind reading your opinions, just state them as such.

stalk much?

dude,

every single one of us at one point have said something that wasn't true but we thoughts was.

give it a rest.

The Spurrier comment was meant as a compliment to ncsu.  how else could you take it unless you don't think your team is all that good?  I think ncsu will beat USC with or without Geathers.

Spurrier has done exactly what I said in games past at USC.  there was a big stink about it last year or the year before.  I can't remember which.  Please forgive me.  But by all means ... go google it or whatever it is you do when I post something ...

This never happens...

but I'm in total agreement with you, gvillegatr. Spurrier is the posterchild for underhanded coaching discipline. Maybe the SEC board will step in and say something. Maybe they're no longer afraid of Spurrier's smarmy attitude.

Keepin the Pack focused

TOB's a smart enough coach to stay levelheaded about opponents. He'll have the Pack ready to rock on September 3rd.
