CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — North Carolina quarterback Cameron Sexton was frustrated with himself after tossing two interceptions during Saturday’s 16-13 overtime loss to Virginia, saying “I feel like I let down our fans, the state of North Carolina, I feel like I let down the University, I really feel like I let down my teammates pretty good today.”
But the redshirt junior said he plans to take that frustration out on future defenses.
“I can promise you one thing: This week, they [my teammates] are going to get an unbelievable effort from me,’’ he said. “I’m not going to leave that football center, not a minute, until I fully understand what Boston College is doing every single play. I’m going to be prepared next Saturday to play, and this is not going to happen again.”
Sexton, starting his third game this season, completed 16 of his 25 passes for 166 yards to go with the two interceptions.
LITTLE TO RECEIVER: Greg Little, who had started UNC's first six games at tailback, was replaced in the backfield by Shaun Draughn, who rushed for a career high 138 yards. But Little was on the field during the game as a wide receiver — his former position until the end of last season. The sophomore from Durham had two catches for three yards.
“I see Greg continuing to play well like he has,’’ said Sexton. “He’s going to be a very versatile player for us like he always has. And he did a good job today, and he’ll do a good job next week. And if we need him at running back, he’s going to play running back. And if we need him at receiver, he’ll play there. He’s just only going to get better thorugh this transition.
BRUUUUUUUUCE: Linebacker Bruce Carter’s blocked field goal marked his fifth special teams swat of this year (his previous four were blocked punts). But coach Butch Davis said he wasn’t surprised. “He’s a terrific football player; he’s extraordinarily physically gifted and he lays his guts on the floor; he leaves everything out there.”
MANY REPLACE TATE: As expected, cornerback Kendric Burney replaced injured playmaker Brandon Tate on punt returns, and Cooter Arnold slid into the third wide receiver role. But the most interesting change came on kick returns, when Little and defensive back Johnny White were on the field — not star receiver Hakeem Nicks.

Sexton is a true Tar Heel
Sun, 10/19/2008 - 05:22 — UNCAlumnusAnd if you're not.....don't read. I think Sexton did play poorly. He's not Superman, though. When someone is off, others (coaches included) need to adjust to put them in a position to succeed. My hope is that the Heels will bounce back against a good BC team Sat. They will need Sexton to produce. The other players must play better, also. The defense must play urgent. The defense played the last minute of the UVa game made me think Withers was afraid to play man up. The fact is UVa has some tall receivers. UNC's DB's needed to play "smack the crud out of somebody" to prevent catches. They could have done that to end the game. There's a reason UVa only had 3 points with a minute and change to play.
Don't be so hard on yourself, Cam...
Sun, 10/19/2008 - 01:10 — packaok (not verified)You didn't let down the state of North Carolina. There are a huge number of North Carolina residents who pull against the Tar Heels and we all felt joy and elation over the choke job that your team pulled.
Special thanks for today's UVA victory goes straight to the $2 Million man himself, Chief Butch Davis (he's 1/8th Cherokee Indian, you know). It is nice to know that he had such faith in you, Cam, that he had you take 2 knees (a familiar position for you I'm sure) at the end of regulation.
So, on behalf of the non-pansy-blue residents of this state, I would like to say a hearty "THANK YOU" for your performance today and keep up the good work!

Sat, 10/18/2008 - 22:20 — gvillegatryea, you played like cow manure today. but the bottom line is, if Paschal and Davis play defense straight up on the last possession, like they played the entire game, the outcome is prolly 99% different. meaning you and your teammates win 10-3 in regulation. BOL in the next game and stay focused this week at practice.
