File this under the category "Anything's Possible" — a Florida State football player, Myron Rolle, could be nominated for a Rhodes Scholarship.
Rolle, according to SI, has a 3.75 GPA and will finish his undergraduate degree in less than three years. Impressive.
Cheap shot alert (please don't read if you can't handle a joke): The article doesn't mention if Rolle took any of his classes online.

dude, it is well documneted

it is well documneted on how your athletic program, at Free Shoes University, deals in academics. one "bright" spot doesn not take away from all the bad. at least Miami dealt in Pell Grants and I would bet my bottom dollar you guys won't see near the penalty Miami got and its no where near as bad.
even at the poorest schools in america, theres always going to be at least one or two students who have excelled and get rewarded with scholarships ... maybe not rhoads scholarships, but good ones just the same.
Seminole Rhoades Scholars
Fri, 07/18/2008 - 13:18 — Florida State Alumn (not verified)Why don't you do some reseach before knocking on Florida State athletes. A track and field athlete, Garrett Johnson, was a Rhoades Scholar in 2006. In addition to being a terrific student, he was also an NCAA Champion in the Shot Put. Garrett even passed up his final year of track eligibility to pursue the Rhoades Scholar opportunity and gave up his opportunity to win more NCAA titles. Brilliant reporting on the tired and often repeated, "FSU is an academic lightweight" line. I agree that there have been some academic problems, but instead of actually doing some research like a real reporter, you just wrote something down that you thought was funny, good one! Maybe you will have to file that under "Anything is Possible - Twice"
um, FSU alum ...

Just a thought. And, just for reading comprehension's sake, the joke was about the online classes and the scandal that ripped through the university, not just the football team. See, that's called fact-checking. Either way, I'm sure you feel better about shooting the messenger.
