No VT repeat for Barth

RALEIGH -- Down a point and with 4:44 left in the game, UNC kicker Casey Barth had hoped he was about to knock through another game-winning field goal.

Barth's 21-yarder on the last play of the Virginia Tech game on Oct. 29 gave the Tar Heels a 20-17 road win. He was poised to add another game-winner to his resume on Saturday but his 38-yard attempt barely got past the line of scrimmage.

N.C. State's Alan-Michael Cash batted Barth's attempt and preserved the Wolfpack's 28-27 lead and ultimately the victory.

"I think I just kicked it low," Barth said. "I have to blame myself on that one."

Barth hit from 31 and 20 yards earlier in the game, giving him a streak of 16 straight made field goals. He wishes it was a streak of 17.

"I think I hit it alright, but I guess we'll never know," Barth said.
