GREENSBORO — N.C. State freshman Richard Howell, who had surgery to repair the meniscus in his left knee earlier this month, probably won’t even return to practice “for a few weeks or so.”
“I watched him the other day …I wouldn’t feel comfortable putting him out there right now, for sure,” said Wolfpack coach Sidney Lowe, whose team opens the season Nov. 12. “And I just can’t see him being ready to do anything for the next couple of weeks. He’s also going to have to do some individual stuff, and pass that first.”
Howell’s stint on crutches continues a slew of injuries that Lowe has had to deal with since he took over the Pack, includings ones to Courtney Fells, Engin Atsur and Farnold Degand in previous seasons.
“But I’m not going to call it a curse,’’ Lowe said, laughing. “I just look forward to him coming back, and I’m glad that we have enough players to continue on and play.”

the curse
Mon, 10/26/2009 - 10:24 — sbas2the curse does exist! the curse dates back to the beginning of the Les Robinson era when Feggins tore up his knee when practice for the upcoming season began. the curse has run unabated throughout the remainder of Robinson's tour, through Sendek's tour, and now into Lowe's tour.
woe be to n.c. state men's basketball. :-)
