UNC got good news on the injury front on Monday for both tight end Zack Pianalto and fulback Bobby Rome.
Pianalto, who injured his right foot after scoring the game-tying touchdown in Saturday's 12-10 win over UConn, did not break a bone the X-rays revealed Monday, Tar Heels coach Butch Davis said.
The length of Pianalto's absence has yet to be determined, Davis said, but when asked what the Heels would do without their leading receiver against East Carolina, Davis responded:
"I don't know that he's going to be out."
Pianalto, who caught seven passes for 87 yards, suffered a subtalar dislocation of his foot.
Rome missed the UConn game with symptoms of the H1N1 virus. His fever had subsided and is expected to return to practice on Tuesday, Davis said.
As for starting linemen Jonathan Cooper and Lowell Dyer, Davis said their status will be updated throughout the week.
"We won't really know until [Tuesday]," Davis said.
Cooper, the left guard, missed the UConn game with a sprained ankle. Dyer, the center, did not play because of a shoulder injury.

Pianalto
Tue, 09/15/2009 - 11:45 — SurferI am not yet convinced that Zach will play against ECU. I hope he does if he is able, but I think that the point BD was making was that we don't know at this point, i.e. wait for the injury report later in the week.
i knew ...
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 18:23 — gvillegatrwhen there were 17 posts on this blog there was some talking going on b/tn UNC and ncsu fans. I also knew lil izzy would be behind it. I was right again.
on to Pianalto ... this is great news for the Heels. I just knew he had broken something and I had stayed at a Holiday Inn the night before, too. Jst hand the ball to the ref next time. But it was a long day for the offense, the break through must have felt great!
That's good news..
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 19:52 — UNC1998about both players. Here's hoping Tar Heels maintain success with regard to the schedule (last I checked they're 2-0). Hopefully all the injured players that can play this season will play this week. ECU is a big game, if for no other reason than a little bragging right. I'm sure UNC looks at every game as the biggest to that point on the schedule, though. I would expect nothing else.

Mon, 09/14/2009 - 16:41 — festerIzzyKareem said "i've yet to see you or any other UNCCH fan on here say anything but what is absolutely obvious about their team or opposing teams. You are the ones who bring nothing to the table. But don't let smack talk fool you."
I guess what Izzy wants is for UNC fans to be like NC
State fans and say idiotic pre-season statements like UNC is going to win the ACC, then play in the National title game and win, and talk about how UNC is a football school etc, etc, blah, blah, blah. I'm sorry UNC fans just use reality to decribe their team.
A few things
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 15:26 — Heels20NCBKVIII, are you bluecat?
izzykareem, is it your goal in life to walk around with an un-deserved sense of accomplishment? Seriously, man. You're one of the only people I know who can write a sentence that STRONGLY demonstrates arrogance, hypocrisy, ignorance and pure fiction. I don't know why you call these guys Wal-Mart fans when you didn't even go to State. Furthemore, I'll refer back to your comment last week about how you supposedly got into Carolina "back when it was a good school," even though it gets harder and harder to get into every year. Then you talk about JPG saving the time to respond when HE DIDN'T EVEN WRITE THIS ARTICLE. You know, it is possible to be a State fan and make respectable posts. Take JPDOhio, mad_max and willncsu for example. I hate to get on here and make personal attacks, but nothing you say is of any value because you're constantly talking out the wrong end of your body. So I suggest that YOU take a trip down here to the south where people actually know about football, go to Wal-Mart and buy a college football magazine. Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, Street and Smith, it really doesn't matter because anything will be an upgrade from the posts you make on here everyday. I wish you the best of luck in becoming a sensible human being.
haha
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 16:20 — izzykareemdo u stand by the statement "he didn't write this article."? It says "by JPG" up in the headline.
And YOU hate to get on here and make personal attacks? That's all you do. Ive been an NCSU fan my entire life, ive been thru every down and the occasional ups. Ive also taken all of my uncch friends "arrogance, hypocrisy, ignorance and pure fiction" for same amount of time and i have learned to give as good as i get.
i've yet to see you or any other UNCCH fan on here say anything but what is absolutely obvious about their team or opposing teams. You are the ones who bring nothing to the table. But don't let smack talk fool you.
i do find a great sense of satisfaction, if not astonishment, that i can get under you guys skin so bad. just take it like a man, give it back to me, and shut your whiny pie hole.
It definitely showed
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 17:42 — Heels20It definitely showed Tysiac's picture by the article earlier. That being said, I don't state the obvious, I state the truth. I said UNC would beat The Citadel and UConn, and they did. I said that many State fans overrated their team, and that proved to be true. I called you out for your bias, and you continue to demonstrate it as you only talk negative about the Heels when we've got a better record than you. You're a mediocre fan of a program that has been mediocre. You have nothing of value to offer. Your comments are like darts with no feathers, as it's unpredictable where you're going to go next. So once again, I beg you to please read up on teams before posting such moronic comments.
The ABC fans make me laugh.
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 15:14 — GoHeels1984The ABC fans make me laugh. So, say the Heels are overrated.... go ahead. Bottom line, is our team is 2-0. What is yours? If you root for NC State college, then you are 1-1 with a lone win vs a 1AA team. I always laugh when the ABC'ers come on here and flame. Having Pianalto back sooner than later is going to be a bonus. After seeing that play at Rentschler field the other day, I was sure he broke it. He is a VITAL part of the UNC offense. Now, the Heel defense is awesome!
Go Heels!
Tarholes
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 13:37 — NCBKXVIIIHas anyone mentioned the word overrated about the heels!!! UConn took them to task and the first game cream puff! When are schools like Carolina and State gonna learn that playing these cream puff games like the Citidal and Murray State does them no good except padding there schedule! And you see where that has gotten you in the past!!!!!! NO WHERE! And it is hiestrical that this Pianalto hurt himself celebrating after a catch. For God's sake "I know you haven't" but at least act like you have been there before????? Idiot!!
ughh
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 14:09 — izzykareemi admire your hate but i would suggest look up words on how to spell them and cut down on the punctuation marks.
and if you think the injury was bad, this is not the first time the same player has injured himself celebrating a tarhole success.
Scoring
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 16:26 — SurferIf I recall correctly, Zach injured his ankle/leg last year while scoring, not celebrating.
Yep, tackled going into
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 16:27 — Heelman30Yep, tackled going into endzone.
NCBKXVIII
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 13:54 — Marillion6No, what's hysterical is your use of the word "idiot" in a post that doesn't use a question mark after the first sentence...or the second...then uses NO WHERE instead of nowhere...uses "there" instead of "their"...then spells "hysterical" "hiestrical".
What a mental midget you are.
Why do you lie about stuff
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 13:33 — Heelman30Butch did not say he could play. He said he would be evaluated today. Do you even listen JP? You are a joke.
reading comprehension...
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 14:06 — izzykareemthey have books on it at walmart (walmart has everything) but it's nowhere near the UNCCH fan gear. But since you missed that the article says: "A chance he will play" then you may have to ask a walmart associate to help you find the educational section, you may not be able to on your own.
izzykareem
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 14:21 — Heelman30Was I talking to you? Carry on with your walmart and tarhole jokes. They are very original. Must be very time consuming to spend your whole life hating UNC.
heelman
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 14:29 — izzykareemi'm just saving JPG the time of responding to your post which i showed was ill-advised and misinformed. I must confess that hating UNCCH (i don't hate the entire University of North Carolina System) has more to do with sticking it to their fans as much as i can and as much as they like to do it back; its all part of our shared culture. I just do my little part.
The point is....this was
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 16:22 — Heelman30The point is....this was Butch's comment. “The good news is that the X-ray revealed that there was no break. So now it’s the rest of the diagnostic tests will take place today and we’ll find out what his status is and we’ll let everybody know later in the week when we get a chance to talk later.”
JP takes that and tries to get UNC fans excited about Zack playing this week. It is good news but nobody said anything about a chance of him playing except JP.
Great news
Mon, 09/14/2009 - 12:46 — heelsno1Pianalto is currently UNC's top reciever, so we need him to quickly heal and stay grounded (...no more jumping after the catch...just make the catch and hand the ball to the official).
