ACC Now

Nix out at Miami, Marve to follow

Bookmark and Share

Bad news for defensive coordinators everywhere in the ACC: Miami shuttled offensive coordinator Patrick Nix after he bungled the clock in the Canes' 24-17 Emerald Bowl loss to Cal.

Nix spent two seasons at Miami after cashing a check for three at Georgia Tech. The Canes (7-6) ranked 89th in total offense in 2008, up from 110th in 2007.

Nix, a blog favorite for his use of Calvin Johnson at Georgia Tech, told the Miami Herald he wanted to run a more wide-open offense and had philosophical differences with head coach Randy Shannon. Nix, a former Auburn quarterback, might end up on Gene Chizik's new staff at his alma mater.

Miami is also going to lose quarterback Robert Marve, according to the Herald. Marve, who was suspended for the bowl game and quite frankly not as good as freshman quarterback Jacory Harris, is expected to transfer.

Dumping Nix and Marve? Hmmm, maybe Shannon read Late Hits, or maybe he has mastered the obvious.

Nix

everyone has been gunning for Nix's head for two years now.  it now appears Shannon is the reason for the pee wee offense.  makes sense considering Shannon is a defensive guy.  Defensive guys think the offense should simply not turn the ball over and play conservative while the defense wins the game for them ... a M.O. Miami has had for the last two years.
