University of North Carolina football players Devon Ramsay and Michael McAdoo have been ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAA, the university announced this evening
North Carolina will appeal the decision to the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement, an independent panel comprised of representatives from NCAA member colleges, universities and athletic conferences, according to UNC's news release. This committee can reduce or remove the condition, but Ramsay and McAdoo will remain ineligible until the appeals process ends.
“While we respect the decision, the facts of the cases simply do not support permanent ineligibility,” UNC athletics director Dick Baddour said in the statement. “We will aggressively appeal and are hopeful the reinstatement committee will reach the same conclusion.”
A junior fullback, N.J., Ramsay played in the first four games of the 2010 season and had two catches for 15 yards, including a touchdown vs. LSU. He was withheld from competition beginning with the Clemson game on Oct. 9 and has not returned.
According to UNC's release, the NCAA will not require the Tar Heels to forfeit the two wins in which Ramsay played this year.
A junior defensive end from Antioch, Tenn., McAdoo has not played this season.

I see..
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 20:32 — UNC1998the predictions have begun. Oh where have all the ECU fans who hurled their insults of cheating and predictions of ECU victory gone?
My only question is how many days will those who are wrong be "sick/out of town/ computer busted" before they return to the fray that is this place? I try my hardest not to guess at these type of games. There's just no telling what will happen. I do feel UNC is very well equipped to move the ball and score vs. NCSU. They question is how will UNC try to handle Wilson and his receivers. Williams and Burney made a very bad play vs. VT that cost UNC a TD against. The entire secondary better be ready for this game. Also, I hope the coaches decide to let Carter loose. There is no question in my mind he is faster than Wilson. If he got a running start he'd put a bad hurting on the young man. UNC played the "contain" game vs. Taylor. By not bull rushing towards him they gave him loads of time to look downfield. Sooner or later guys just get open if given the time. Take a chance here or there and lay the lumber on Wilson. My guess is he will be timid to keep the running up if that happens. That's not an indictment of him, but rather just human nature.
The Defense led by Carter
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 20:39 — unc098The Defense led by Carter and Sturdivant and the whole secondary is itchin' for a brawl. Its possible that it could be a lower scoring game then we are predicting. Like you say anything could happen..GO HEELS
I have a feeling
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 12:35 — Heels20that TA's knee is about to hit the ground again come Saturday.

Tue, 11/16/2010 - 17:29 — mad_maxI don't get it...for TA's knee to hit the ground "again", his knee would have already had to hit the ground once before, and we all know that didn't happen :)
Senior day for a class that is 0-3 against State, including a 31 point mugging at home, and a chance to spoil State's hopes of their first championship since 1979! You think Carolina might get up for this one?
Carolina is going to play their superbowl this weekend. This is going to be a true dog fight. Blood and tears will be shed, and bodies will be dragged from the field. But somehow, some way, State will remain standing in the end: 34-32, Wolfpack!
One serious point. The team
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 20:41 — unc098One serious point. The team that holds it together emotionally wins. Penalties and reckless behavior could cost the game.

Tue, 11/16/2010 - 13:03 — unc098If our offense is cranked up and clicking no way State holds us to 17. Defensively, I think Williams and Burney have some payback in mind. I look to see UNC put up its best game this weekend. But I also felt that way after the first half last year. : }
"If our offense is cranked up and clicking"?
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 14:52 — JPDOhioPretty big if, especially with Nate and the boys bringing the hurt on TJ.

Tue, 11/16/2010 - 20:31 — unc098TJ has another 400 + yard game in there somewhere and he may be saving it for this coming senior day... with that somewhat suspect secondary... The weather is going to be perfect... and why not TJ.....I am bringing all the Swami I can muster to bear along with 70,000 plus like minded folks... Sounds like you got the perfect set up for Sat. Make sure dinner is ready when she gets home and she will excuse the excess consumption of beer due to the drubbing the Heels gave the Pack.
Myself and a couple of friends will be attending the game. I doubt I will have any vocal cords left to speak to my wife after the game so I better get dinner made before I go.
GO HEELS
I, too
Wed, 11/17/2010 - 10:45 — Heels20will be at the game. Waking up at 6 for the eatin' and drinkin'. This is the day of the year where emotions run highest between Pack fans and Heels fans. Definitely looking forward to see how this one turns out.
Lucky guy
Wed, 11/17/2010 - 01:17 — JPDOhioThink you are going to be treated to a good one.
As far as dinner goes, her choice, but someone else will be cooking. And I'm pretty sure I'll be able to drive, unless I celebrate too much before she gets home.
Unfortunately, my son won't be home yet for Thanksgiving to watch the game with me. But he will still be around for the Maryland game, so we can watch the Pack earn a trip to Charlotte.
Yeah, My son won't be home
Wed, 11/17/2010 - 10:59 — unc098Yeah, My son won't be home until T-Day either. We are going to try to go to the Duke game and celebrate UNC 8 win season and a trip to a decent bowl this year.

Wed, 11/17/2010 - 11:26 — JPDOhioThe perfect long Holiday weekend.
Assuming you can also avoid any involvement in Black Friday shopping.
Avoid at all costs.
Wed, 11/17/2010 - 11:55 — unc098Avoid at all costs. fortunately we are not in a Mall. Looking forward to a gathering of the clan. We are hosting with family and our close neighbors and some friends. Got to start cooking right after the Heels tame the Wolfies.
Happy for you
Wed, 11/17/2010 - 12:34 — JPDOhioI am glad you will have a support system in place to help you out of your depression that will inevitably set in late Saturday afternoon.
You mean the inevitable
Wed, 11/17/2010 - 18:39 — unc098You mean the inevitable letdown after the sky high experience of witnessing the Heels banishment of the Pack from the ACC championship.
I like this side of you, JPD
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 16:04 — Heels20Ain't nothin wrong with trash talking during this week.
yep
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 21:17 — JPDOhioThe mood is good, because I got lucky today.
Let me rephrase that.
Found out that my wife is participating a yoga marathon Saturday afternoon, so I have the house to myself with no interruptions during the game. All it costs me is the Gameplan charge and whatever I have to pledge for the charity event. Not cheap but worth every penny.
You Tar Heel fans are going to need some yoga to recover from the pasting my Wolfpack will be delivering on Saturday.
Worth every penny
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 22:07 — gvillegatrThe GP only cost around $15 per Saturday. The yoga marathon might cost you a c-note minimum. Either way, it's just you, the tv and the beer! Worth every penny in my book!
I'll be cooking a pig and having a few spirits, myself. 86 hrs ...
Seriously
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 22:48 — JPDOhioI am expecting a tight one going down to the wire. Could go either way.
I think whoever posted that the result could come down to one mistake or one great play got it right.
But NC State
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 13:11 — Puddentainhas a secret weapon!
could it be...
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 14:46 — willncsu34the NCAA?
Nah
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 15:30 — PuddentainIt's TJ Yates!
As I see it....
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 09:23 — UNC1998By UNC removing Ramsay as soon as they learned of potential impropriety is what saved their two wins. As for Mr. Baddour appealing the permanent suspensions.... I think that he and the athletic dept know more than anyone here who may be "hearing reports". That said I think he and the athletic department are in a better position to decide whether or not to appeal.
As an aside.. I have a friend who went to NCSU and was on a partial golf scholarship. He was at a basketball game and sat beside Haywood Jeffires, who at the time was a professional player and former student athlete. Jeffires bought my friend concessions... This is a true story, as my friend still brags about it. This happened in the early 90's. I have no problem with what happened, but today it would bring the NCAA down in SWAT uniforms with night vision goggles.
Wanna hear something
Mon, 11/15/2010 - 22:15 — awdracerWanna hear something funny???? The other players that got suspended got lighter punishment because the tuto was working for Butch Davis when she helped them cheat. When Mcadoo and Ramsey cheated, the tutor was still working for the athletic department. That is called a loophole. Otherwise EVERY single player caught up in this scandal would be permanently ineligible. UNC-CHeat is as lucky as they are dirty.
So UNC used an ineligible
Mon, 11/15/2010 - 21:52 — awdracerSo UNC used an ineligible player but will not be forced to vacate the wins that they go using the ineligible player. I bet that USC and FSU, both of whom had to vacate wins for using ineligible players will be MOST interested in this ruling. This really does smack of favoritism.
South Carolina?
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 10:43 — gvillegatrThey have not vacated any wins. Maybe you were referring to SC also known as Southern Cal? Get it right next time.
APPEAL?
Mon, 11/15/2010 - 20:55 — PACK_MIKE77Everytime I hear UNC wanting to appeal, I go back to the very first press conference and the pledge Thorp made on how they were going to cooperate to the fullest. Now UNC is whining(which is what they do best) and appealing every decision.
So the first press conference was nothing but show. The only conclusion is, UNC is just mad they got caught.
I am starting to hear reports Hakim Nicks took dough. How long has UNC been cheating?
:"hear reports" ??
Mon, 11/15/2010 - 23:00 — AgentPierceShould former UNC players get letter?
Mon, 11/15/2010 - 23:33 — PACK_MIKE77The tutor(?) received a pretty nasty letter about being banned from UNC period.
Do you think the former NFL players that cost the current UNC football players their eligibility get a letter? Based on Thorps hollow words of hammering the transgressors, NO.
The hapless tutor that in no way give money to the hallowed university is vilified, yet the NFL players will be on the sideline giving UNC players motivation!
MY BAD! Nicks was one of the enablers!

Cooperation v. Appeal
Mon, 11/15/2010 - 22:08 — nchurricanesCooperating in an investigation and appealing due to feeling that a ruling is unfair are two completely different animals.
Funny, leave it to a Pack fan to start dragging other kids into the mix ... I'd love to know where you are hearing reports Nicks "took dough." I'm guessing those are the voices in your head.
Be interesting to see how this weekend's game goes.
UNC-CHeat
Mon, 11/15/2010 - 20:48 — pressingncaaThis is soooo unfair! All they did was break a few rules. It's not like they were working for the university and accepting money from an agent or anything.
What's Nate going to do?
Mon, 11/15/2010 - 20:44 — PuddentainWill there be anybody left for him to head-plant this weekend?
Ha
Mon, 11/15/2010 - 21:44 — gvillegatrWho has he "head planted" so far this season?
Here's what's waiting for TJ
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 09:00 — PuddentainYou might notice that if Nate hadn't gotten him, there were two more defenders waiting in line.

Tue, 11/16/2010 - 11:23 — PuddentainBC will be eligible come Saturday?
I am sure RW is doing
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 12:50 — unc098I am sure RW is doing everything in his power at the moment to see to it that BC will not be dressing out. I think VooDoo is illegal in this country. Not sure! But I am sure that BC has narrowed his sights on Mr. Wilson and has a "special" workout planned for him.
I don't see how BC can possibly be eligible
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 13:09 — PuddentainAfter all, RW has tutored him the last three years :)
Bruce Carter
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 11:21 — gvillegatrDd you see him cut the angle on TT !? Speed, men. RW, get ready!!
