NCAA hits FSU, Bowden

Bookmark and Share

Florida State will have to vacate victories in 10 sports, including football and basketball, for its role in a recent academic fraud scandal.

The NCAA found FSU guilty of academic fraud, unethical conduct and failing to monitor its academic support services program, according to the Orlando Sentinel. FSU will go on a four-year probation and could lose a minimum of 10 scholarships across the 10 affected sports.

Also, and most significant, football coach Bobby Bowden may be forced to vacate (which is different than forfeit) an unspecified number of his 382 career wins.

Bowden trails Penn State coach Joe Paterno (383) on the Division I career win list.
