NCAA clears N.C. State's Purvis

Bookmark and Share

The NCAA cleared N.C. State freshman Rodney Purvis on Monday afternoon.

The McDonald's All-American guard will be eligible to play basketball for the Wolfpack this season after the NCAA completed a review of Purvis' high school, Upper Room Christian Academy in Raleigh.

Purvis missed the team's trip to Spain in August and had been in academic limbo while the NCAA conducted an extended investigation into Upper Room. Purvis was a member of the first graduating class at the private Christian school near downtown Raleigh.

Purvis posted the news on his Twitter account on Monday, as did coach Mark Gottfried. Purvis wrote:

"A huge thank you to the NCAA, I really appreciate this opportunity. I kept my faith in the Lord Jesus and he brought me thru.

And Gottfried posted:

"(Purvis) fully cleared by NCAA to participate! Very happy for him. Has handled this with great class."

good

Good news for Purvis, seems like a good guy with some talent. State needs a good basketball team, players like Purvis should help out some.

JPG professionalism

Congratulations on this stellar job of crack reporting.  While other outlets have been reporting for weeks the initial ruling of ineligibility by the NCAA, it's been nothing but crickets from JPG.  If this had involved a player on the UNC roster the initial NCAA ineligibility would have been front page news.  I know you must  be proud of this great example of what it means to be a professional.

There, there - it'll be OK -

There, there - it'll be OK - poor, poor baby

Bull

When the issue came up initially, it was reported on. Now that it has been resolved, it was reported on. No overkill, just reporting facts as they happen.

There may be times when criticism is warranted, but not in this case. In fact, it seems to me that the N&O sports staff gets blistered way too much, at least on this site. In my opinion, the bias they are accused of is often a projection of where the real bias lies.

Finally

Never could understand how a kid who was accepted by the school and started classes wasn't automatically qualified to play. This was the right decision and fortunately done in time for Rodney to fully participate this year.

And the Heels fade away...

'Nuther nail in the coffin for UNC.  The Pack rises!

Great news

Glad that Purvis will get the opportunity to play this upcoming season.  I figured he would be cleared, despite what certain posters here kept rambling on about.  Nice try, but the Wolfpack cannot be held down any longer!

PTL

Yes!  And to recall an old Southern saying:  Praise The Lord!

' Bout time, I will add.  This season looks good!

Now let's recruit some of the big ' uns in the 2013 class!

That's great news ! Thanks

That's great news !

Thanks for keeping the positive attitude, Rodney - looking forward to a terrific season :-)

Go Pack!

Yes, the sky is the limit for this team!

Desk is clear

Now that this is cleared, what about those ballyhooed banners that need to come down in the Dome?

Pathetic

Even when you get good news on you OWN front, you're more interested in other schools?  Sad.  So many sad State fans that are so green with envy that even good news for their own can't stop them from worrying about their neighbor.

Nobody but nobody is envious

Nobody but nobody is envious of you entitled, nacisstic, arrogant cheating bastages. Nobody

Haha

You're so bitter, it's amusing.  Probably has something to do with the fact that all you Cheat fans tried to turn this Purvis situation into some sort of scandal.  Oops!  Looks like there was nothing here.  Go run along now, back to whatever Walmart you came from.  I'm sure all your buddies there are celebrating the Holden Thorp news.
