N.C. State turns to Beck

Bookmark and Share

There's been a Harrison Beck sighting at Carter-Finley Stadium.

After quarterback Daniel Evans failed to direct N.C. State to a first down over almost two full quarters, coach Tom O'Brien sent Beck, the backup, into the game. Beck was sacked to end his first possession without a first down, but turned his arm loose late in the second quarter to drive N.C. State to a touchdown and a 14-0 halftime lead.

The crowd erupted in cheers after Andre Brown ran 3 yards to gain the first N.C. State first down of the game with 1 minute, 20 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Beck followed that with consecutive 22-yard passes to Owen Spencer and Jarvis Williams for a touchdown 33 seconds before halftime.

The closing seconds of the second quarter came with some bad news for N.C. State, however. Tight end Matt Kushner (right knee) was injured and is out for the rest of the game. Linebacker Nate Irving also was injured, but walked off the field under his own power at halftime.
