N.C. State-Pitt gets 3:30 p.m. start

Bookmark and Share

N.C. State announced Friday morning that its Sept. 26 game against Pittsburgh will start at 3:30 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN-U.

Pittsburgh is among the favorites to win the Big East, so aside from the Sept. 3 season opener against South Carolina, the meeting with the Panthers will be the Wolfpack's most anticipated nonconference game.

Other N.C. State kickoff times that have been announced are:

7 p.m. for the season opener against South Carolina on Sept. 3.

6 p.m. on Sept 12 for Murray State.

6 p.m. on Sept. 19 for Gardner-Webb.

All four of N.C. State's September games are at home.

1-AA opponents (oh wait, i mean FCS)

I'm not at all concerned about overlooking these two 1-aa games. Under CTC, sure, I'd be anxious as hell. But TOB doesn't screw around, and he'll have those boys ready to play no matter who the opponent is. I remember the game two years ago, against Wofford I wanna say...despite being 1-aa, Wofford was actually a monster rushing team; I think they were averaging like 400 rushing yards per game. It would have been very easy to overlook and lose that game, and I actually remember worrying about it coming into the game. TOB put those worries to bed though, and with his no-nonsense attitude, I don't expect to see anything different this year.

Screw "FCS"

It will always be 1-AA to me, a graduate of 1-AA school with multiple national championships. One more example of PC gone wild.

Definitely.

Definitely.

Right

Yep, with Pitt's ranking, I think that it is safe to say that State, even before USC, will be looking right past Murray State and Gardner-Webb. Those two teams, on the other hand will be looking at their most anticipated non-conference game.

Looking past Murray St and Gardner-Webb

Doesn't matter. Upsets by 1-AA teams over BCS teams only happen when the 1-AA teams are very good and the BCS teams are very bad. App State-Michigan fits this pattern (in spite of Michigan's totally undeserved pre-season ranking that year).

I don't know if either Murray State or Gardner-Webb are any good, but I know NC State is good enough not to lose to either of these teams. To quote a high school soccer coach friend of mine just before his overmatched team got pounded at home by my son's team, "Our only chance to win is if we were playing them on a field full of 4-leaf clovers."

I doubt that overlooking

I doubt that overlooking them would cause a loss, but I remember a very sloppy NC State-UMass game a few years ago that resulted in TA McClendon breaking his wrist and State showing weaknesses in terms of discipline.  Keep in mind, Gardner-Webb has two outstanding players on their defense that would be all-conference players in the ACC.  No reason to go half-speed only to get injured against a hungry opponent.

"State showing weaknesses in terms of discipline."

That statement sums up State's problems under Chuck in a nutshell. No such problems under TOB.

Even going half-speed, State should beat the likes of Gardner-Webb. But your last statement is spot on. You have to overcome the tendency to let down, because that is when injuries happen. Coming out of those games injury free is the key.

The Pack won't lose either of the 1-AA games. My guess is that TOB won't tolerate anything less than 100% effort either, so anyone caught going half-speed will be relaxing on the bench.

Agree

I don't think that State will lose, only that, with Pitt's ranking that State will look past these two teams.

Play somebody.

WOW! How impressive University of South Carolina and Pitt. Murray State and Gardner-Webb. Are you kidding? Play somebody! Now I remember why I gave up season tickets.

Well...

We were supposed to play ECU and I believe start a series with Tennesse this year but they both backed out.  Not that Tennessee will be any good this year.  Cant wait to see Florida take it to them this year.

ECU backed out.  I think

ECU backed out.  I think Tennessee was originally scheduled for this year, but that got scrambled up during the expansion.  The Tennessee game will still be played next year in Atlanta.

Gave up season tickets?

Gave up season tickets?  What a shame.  I guess you're not the kind of fan we want in Carter-Finley anyways.
